Today, Seattle rapper Highway returns with the explosive EP,Living Like That. Listen HERE via Victor Worldwide/Geffen Records. Arriving on the heels of infectious new single “We Can Go,” the project showcases the MC’s ability to conjure emotions through a combination of impressionistic lyrics and earworm melodies, a style that is quickly becoming his signature sound.
Highway sets the tone for the EP with “We Can Go.” On the cut, he creates bone-crushing bass and spacey, otherworldly synths alongside co-producer, Internet Money co-founder Nick Mira. “Been here before, I let the hoe leave with my coat,” he spits, blending sing-song bars with a more traditional rap flow. “But I get her wet like a boat and you know I’m right like a note.” While the flexes are razor-sharp, it’s harmonic flourishes that linger long after the song ends.
Living Like That also includes another recent single, “No Guitar,” which initially arrived at the end of August. Other highlights include the hard-hitting “By Myself ft Destroy Lonely” and “Life Like That,” that best relays the projects title. The EP follows the rapper’s self-titled mixtape, which includes his breakthrough single “Cash Talk (No Talkin).” That track finds Highway rapping in his signature flow over heavy bass, gently plucked guitar, and steady 808s.
While he might be a fresh face to some, Highway paid his dues as an in-demand producer. After reaching a level of satisfaction and achievement with his work, the multi-hyphenate turned his attention to rapping. His debut major-label mixtape showcased an artist firmly tapped into the cultural zeitgeist, with the songwriting and production chops to make the work entirely his own. It’s no wonder he has nabbed cosigns from folks like Billboard-charting producer Jetson, producer and recording artist Ye Ali, and his new collaborator Nick Mira.
Already one of the breakout stars of 2022, Highway’s Living Like That EP solidifies him as one of the most exciting new voices in the rap game.
