iAmTheGenius is “Out The Way” but never out of sight

Artist & mogul levels up with new visuals and April project

In an era where artists either play the game or build their own, iAmTheGenius is doing both, and doing it well. The Atlanta-based creative is not just making waves with music—he’s engineering the whole ecosystem. Since stepping onto the scene with his futuristic debut project Back To The Future, Genius has grown from a boundary-pushing artist to a full-fledged mogul, architecting his own lane in the music industry.

The musical monopoly

At the head of Monopoly Distribution, the indie powerhouse he built from the ground up, iAmTheGenius has spent the past five years redefining what independent success looks like. But his vision didn’t stop there! He also launched Monopoly Grow, a dynamic, all-in-one artist services platform designed to empower creators with the tools, strategy, and autonomy they deserve.

While the tech world knows him as a fearless innovator, the music world knows Genius doesn’t miss. His recent release “Ex On My Text” turned heads with its clever concept and melodic finesse—proving once again that he’s not afraid to be vulnerable, catchy, and clever all in the same breath. Now, Genius follows up with the striking visuals for his trendy new track “Out The Way,” a smooth yet sharp record that reflects the duality of his brand: always ahead, never out of step.

With crisp direction and a clean aesthetic, the “Out The Way” video is a vibe. Genius doesn’t chase trends, he crafts moments. Whether he’s in the booth, the boardroom, or behind the scenes building infrastructure, he’s operating with intention. And as he gears up to drop his highly anticipated full-length project at the end of April, the momentum is only multiplying.

IAmTheGenius is the prototype of the new-age creative. A disruptor who doesn’t wait for green lights, but builds his own highways. His ability to seamlessly blend music, business, and innovation is not only rare, it’s revolutionary. So, if you’re in the way, prepare to be moved. Genius is coming through louder and smarter than ever. In fact, we had the pleasure of catching up with the trailblazing talent — take a look at our interview below. Stay tuned, and stay inspired here at REMIXD Magazine!

The interview

Hey iAmGenius! Thank you for taking the time to speak with me on behalf of REMIXD Magazine. Let’s get right into the interview! For readers new and old, can you bring us back to the beginning a bit? Who is IAmGenius and where did it all begin for you?

iamthegenius started during high school. I was new to Atlanta, having moved there directly from Jamaica. I didn’t fit in right away, so my cousin introduced me to computers. I spent most of my time learning how to build them and set up networks. Then I discovered Virtual DJ software, taught myself how to DJ, and things took off from there.

Since Back To The Future, your sound has grown alongside your business ventures. How has your evolution as an entrepreneur influenced your artistry and vice versa?

Being an entrepreneur is challenging and significantly impacts my artistry. On difficult business days, I find release in the studio. It prevents me from internalizing business struggles and brings a unique balance to my life. Conversely, creating something I’m proud of or signing an artist I admire motivates me to push the boundaries in business, ensuring the music reaches a wider audience.

What can fans expect from your full-length project dropping at the end of April? Is there a central message or mood you’re aiming to deliver with this body of work?

Fans can expect a bigger sound, from production and mixing to mastering. I took my time with each part of the creative process. There is no central theme of the album; it’s simply built on my core sound, which fans will already be familiar with.

Do you find your music is a place where Genius the artist and Genius the mogul intersect—or are those two completely different mindsets for you?

Yes, definitely. As entrepreneurs, we go through a lot. The music allows me to express some of the darker emotions that I can’t just speak about outside of a creative realm.

iAmTheGenius speaks on innovation, tech and independence

Monopoly Distribution has made major moves in the last five years. What was missing in the indie music landscape that pushed you to create it?

I saw a lot of creatives embracing the indie space but who didn’t know how to fully build out a sustainable independent business. There were also artists exiting the major label system who needed a service level that matched the majors. I aimed to build something that could help the space using all the knowledge I had acquired from selling marketing services to major labels and also from being a partner in a label that did business with the majors.

Monopoly Grow sounds like a game-changer for artists—can you break down how this platform empowers creatives to scale smarter and more independently?

The platform provides technological infrastructure to support artists in running their businesses. Artists can manage publishing administration, as well as distribute their music globally, all from a single platform. This comprehensive approach allows for easy categorization and leveraging of recording and publishing revenue, simplifying processes such as pulling advances and securing funding. Additionally, the platform streamlines royalty splits to ensure all contributors are paid efficiently with some of the fastest payout in the business. Overall, the platform offers a wide array of features designed to foster artistic growth and success.

You’re building tech with culture at the core. How do you balance innovation with authenticity in a fast-evolving industry?

I maintain that balance by doing what’s best for the music. Even when building tech, I never forget that I’m in the music business, so music has to fuel everything. I think that’s how I balance innovation with authenticity.

Vision, legacy, and impact

As an artist and a founder, your blueprint is pretty rare—what legacy are you intentionally building for the next wave of creatives?

The legacy I want to leave behind for the next wave of creatives is the understanding that nothing should stop great music from being released into the world. The blueprint is to view your music career as a business and consider how to scale that business from a startup to a global entity if that’s your desire.

What advice would you give to artists who want to own more of their journey, but don’t know where to start with the business side?

Research, network, and learn how to build a team. Always be a student of the game and remain curious. Don’t ever think you know what’s going on; the industry changes quickly.

Do you feel pressure being both the face of a brand and a creative force? Or is that duality part of your Genius?

I think there will always be pressure in the music business, but this duality comes naturally to me. I’m out here doing the work.

What does success look like to you at this stage? Also, how has that vision evolved since your first release?

Success to me looks like a bunch of independent artists and labels using our platform to sell millions of records and making living off their music and building equity in the masters they own. The vision has evolved a lot because of all the advances in the space it is definitely possible now more than ever.

What’s next for iAmGenius?

With music, platforms, and innovation under your belt—what’s next for IAmTheGenius? Are you thinking beyond music entirely?

I think the next step is investing heavily in AI. I’ve recently become obsessed with the film world, so I’m exploring where that takes me.

What’s one thing you think people misunderstand about building your own lane in this industry. And what’s your truth about it?

I think people underestimate the amount of work required to build a bootstrapped company that goes against the standards of the music business. The truth is, this path has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

Lastly, is there a message that you’d like to leave with fans?

The Goats already know what’s going on 🙂
