Soulful artist Keyondra Lockett is ready to takeover 2020. As one of the original group members of music group Zie’l, Lockett knows what it takes to succeed and shine. The gospel singer is a creative and motivated individual who is guided by her faith to take her through her career journey.
In a recent live interview with RemixdMag, Lockett discussed how her single “Trouble Won’t Last,” from her album The Heal Reloaded, is meant to inspire others and serve as a reminder that hard times don’t last.
When asked about what the response has been like to the song, Lockett responded that the response has been amazing, and shared that it earned a No. 11 spot on the Billboard Gospel Songs Chart.
“The inspiration behind that body of work was to promote healing in many areas of life,” Lockett said. “The response has been amazing! It actually chatted at No. 11 on Billboard.”

What city are you from and where are you based now?
I’m from Shreveport, Louisiana but I’m now based in Atlanta, Georgia.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?
I decided to pursue a career in music at an early age. I sang in a girl group named Zie’l. I officially pursued music in 2015 when the group disbanded. All ideas, music written etc. are because of my pursuits.
Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?
Yes, my dad used to listen to many vocalists when I was a kid. One of our favorites is Anita Baker. You can hear me referencing her vocally from time to time.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you? What genre does it fit into best?
I’m an Urban Inspirational Gospel Artist. My sound is a mix of soul, urban and jazz.
What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?
I honestly feel it’s a part of the call on my life.
What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you to make it?
My passion is driven simply by my ability. The people who love and support what I do make it inspiring. It’s important to get out the specific messages through song to help edify people’s lives. That also inspires me.

My top 5 are: Karen Clark-Sheard, Brandy, Kim Burrell, Miley Cyrus, Billie Holiday
What are some of your music career goals for the future?
To further push my initiative called We Got Next. It’s an event I came up with to help independent artists understand the business of music and how to establish oneself as an artist.
Tell us about your last project “Trouble Won’t Last.” What is it about?
My Billboard Chart topping song “Trouble Won’t Last” is a song that motivates each listener to trust in the Lord and to trust His track record. If He did it before He’ll do it again. It’s a song from my latest album The Heal Reloaded.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?
I’m about to release my EP Cornerstone. No dates just yet, stay tuned. Also collaborating with artists on other projects. I’m working on continuing to build my clothing line brand as well. I believe in multiple streams of income.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music?
The newest message is from my EP Cornerstone. When you think of architects and their process of building, they begin with the cornerstone, also referred to as the foundation. It ensures that the building will be stable. Well, it’s the same for our lives. Jesus is what the Bible calls, “the chief cornerstone.” He’s our foundation. If we don’t build on Him, we’ll collapse when storms come. Make sure He’s the foundation of your career, your relationships, and your lives period.
