Honey Bxby is New Jersey’s latest gem. With an angelic soft voice over bouncy nostalgic production, she is slated to have a promising year ahead.
Coming off an impressive 2023 that included a powerful performance at the Soul Train Awards, accompanying Sexyy Redd on tour, and “Touchin” starting to make waves. She aims to kick off 2024 with a bigger splash by adding Kaliii to the remix of “Touchin.”
Remixd Magazine spoke with Honey Bxby about her success, dream festival lineup, and much more.
Soul Train Awards + other performances
Remixd Magazine: Walk us through your mind stepping off the stage of the Soul Train Awards.
Honey Bxby: I felt like I could finally breathe, I was so nervous. I was shaking when I was performing and it was so cold that night. The wind was blowing so hard it almost blew me off of the thing that I was standing on. I was about to fall over I had on these heels that were so skinny at the heel and I was like oh my god like how am I going to get through this? I was still on tour I was singing every day for like a month straight so I had to go from that to singing on Soul Train and it was a lot of preparing but I did enjoy myself in the process outside of just being nervous and just like worried about everything that was going on.
Remixd Magazine: What was your favorite memory from the Sexyy Red tour?
Honey Bxby: My favorite part of the tour was watching people vibe and f**k with me. I was doing this call-and-response thing because I’m still a small artist and not a lot of people know me or my music. So I was trying to get them to learn it and the crowd started showing me their phones looking me and my music up. That was my favorite moment.
Women running the rap game
Remixd Magazine: With women taking over music currently, how does it feel to be a part of the movement?
Honey Bxby: It feels amazing, p****y is power, we run the world. it’s amazing to see, I love it. It was men dominate for a very very long time, and to see it switch so drastically it’s like oh yeah it’s a great time to get into the game.
Remixd Magazine: How did you connect with Kaliii for the “Touchin Remix“?
Honey Bxby: We’re on the same label and we were on tour together. She did the remix and we flew to Atlanta to get some content done.
The New Jersey singer brings a sound that blends modern R&B vocals and nostalgic production which she describes very colorfully. She shared “It’s very soft, but very hard. Cause I can be very soft but I’m always talking shit. Even in “Touchin'” I’m talking sh*t. “You can have me but you can only have me for one night”. It’s like crushed ice, very crunchy but very soft and it refreshes you.”
The crushed ice sound develops from her playlist that features Amy Winehouse, Kanye West, Paramore, Drake, Kehlani, Brent Faiyaz, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Natasha Bedingfield, and Chief Keef.
Remixd Magazine: If you had your own music festival, who would be on the lineup?
Honey Bxby: It would be Drake, Frank Ocean, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Brent Faiyaz, and Kehlani. I would want to have an Amy Winehouse tribute. I really like the way Doja performs, my lineup would be so fire. K Camp, because I feel like he’s so slept on and makes amazing music. Paramore, definitely Hayley Williams. Gwen Stefani and Britney Spears. And Rihanna would headline.
What’s next for Honey Bxby?
Honey Bxby is gearing up for an explosive 2024, with a brand new tour and deluxe project on the way she is sure to make her impact felt.
Honey Bxby will be accompanying Flyana Boss on their tour with stops in Toronto, Brooklyn, Atlanta, and more.
