Interview with Kenny Muney

Remixd Magazine: I’ve seen in a few interviews you like to cook. What are some other things you enjoy doing when not recording?

Kenny: I do like to cook. I like to play what ever kind of games. I just like having fun really while getting out of music mode and work mode to just have fun sometimes. Definitely like drawing!

What do you like to draw?

K: I can draw whatever, really. I just like to sketch. I feel like when you sketch, you don’t have to be perfect so I just like to sketch.

Your discography is pretty loaded! what is your recording process like? Do you experience creative block when recording ?

K: I don’t ever have creative block. I just rap what’s on my mind, I don’t write nothing. My creativity just comes natural. I wouldn’t call it a creative block I’d just say I’m not in the mood at the moment.

The Memphis music scene has been extremely important to hip-hop within the past few years. What are your current feelings about the state of Memphis music?

K: It’s just major! I feel like it ain’t no place like Memphis! Once you get a taste of Memphis , you’re stuck on it. It isn’t going anywhere. We are starting to solidify ourselves like other cities.

Kenny Muney On “The Blue Seasons Super Deluxe”

You just released ‘The Blue Seasons Super Deluxe.’ Congrats! Can you tell us about the making of this project and how it contests to your growth as an artist?

K: The original was so hard. I felt like it was unfinished. I don’t like dropping a project and I didn’t do everything in my power to make sure it gets to where it needs to go.

If you could give a top song from this project, which one speaks to you the most?

K: I feel all my songs are hard! It depends on how I’m feeling. “Jacuzzi On The Roof.” I actually have a jacuzzi on the roof. *Collective laughter.*

For this project you worked with Tay Keith, Key Glock, Big Moochie Grape and more. How do you decide who you want to work with.

K: I like putting my folk on it. I don’t really care to do songs with other people but I’d be open to it. But, when it comes to my projects, I don’t have time to wait on no clearance. I know what my tape will do by itself.

I’ve noticed that happens a lot with Memphis artists. Everyone works with their people. Do you feel that’s a Memphis thing?

K: I think that’s everybody! They probably work with other people but they always have their people on the tape. I think that’s what I like to do. I got that from Dolph.

Speaking of Young Dolph, Is there something he’s said to you years ago that really resonates with you to this day about music?

K: “Have Fun.” That’s something he would say and its correlating now more than usual. “Work your phone, use your phone.” That’s his main thing.

Lastly, now that 2024 is coming to an end what can fans expected next from you in 2025?

K: Expect the unexpected! 2025, everyone needs to expect something different. We’re going to have a great year! If you ain’t on it you better get on it!
