Interview: NYALLAH on their new album ‘R+B’ and articulating their words with music

nyallah
NYALLAH braces for the new year.

“I just know that the best way I can articulate myself is with music,” they said.

NYALLAH (@n.yallah) is back with another great groundbreaking body of work by the name of “R+B.” What a major difference that 4 years can make, as they have not released a full-length project since 2019. Between balancing the curve balls that life has been throwing at them, “R+B” is proof that you can’t rush greatness. In this exclusive interview with RemixdMag, the New York-based artist shares insights into the creation process behind “R+B,” revealing a remarkable journey of growth both lyrically and vocally. NYALLAH reflects on the transformative period between releases, emphasizing the importance of standing confidently on artistic convictions. As we delve into their evolution, anticipate a mature and passionate narrative in “R+B,” a testament to the artist’s commitment to authentic self-expression.

In their previous feature on RemixdMag, NYALLAH [they/them] explored their harmonious single, “Owe U?” However, with the release of “R+B,” the artist exhibits significant growth in both lyrical and vocal expression, all the while remaining loyal to their distinctive artistic style. Speaking more on the project and how they’ve grown from their previous releases, NYALLAH shares:

“That one felt like a little bit more timid and I was still confident, but I don’t think I was really standing on the sh*t that I was saying in the same way that I am now. Not staying stuck and remembering the importance of flow and self-preservation and just allowing yourself to expand, because anything that isn’t growing is dead.”

Taking a distinctly more mature approach, “R+B” shows that great artists are capable of successfully pivoting at any moment. They have clearly done some growing up since their last EP, and it’s reflected within the subject matter.

“Since it was music that I wrote in 2020 to 2022, it’s a lot about what was going on in my life. I wanted to make something that was more direct and more passionate in a different way than my first record.”

After discussing the creation process for “R+B”, NYALLAH gave RemixdMag a preview of what listeners can expect in 2024:

“We have a couple of music videos coming. More shows. I have a couple that are being planned in LA as well as New York. Since we weren’t able to do listening parties for the project, I want to find some ways to do some intimate listening parties in different cities to have intimate conversations about the record and the intentions behind creating it. Yeah, there’s a lot of stuff happening. I’m very excited.”

NYALLAH’s return with “R+B” marks a transformative journey, showcasing four years of artistic evolution since their last full-length project in 2019. The New York-based artist delved into the creative process behind the album, emphasizing the importance of growth and self-preservation. With a more mature and confident approach, “R+B” reflects NYALLAH’s journey from timidity to standing firmly on their artistic convictions. Looking ahead, the artist teased upcoming music videos, shows in LA and New York, and intimate listening parties in various cities, promising an exciting 2024 for fans. It’s easy to see that NYALLAH is going to continue to build off of the momentum of “R+B” in 2024. Check out their latest release and be on the lookout for what’s coming next.
