What city are you from/ Where are you based now?
I am originally from Woodbridge, VA, and currently based out of Los Angeles, CA.
What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?
My artist name is also my real name, my first and middle, Tiara Imani.
My close friends and family call me by my middle name just as much as my first name so it’s only right. Plus it flows well.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
I would describe my music as the perfect fusion between R’n’B and Rap. Music for the sheets and the low-key streets. It’s mellow and melodic, yet purposeful, shit-talking. I make music that makes you wanna self reflect and keep going, but also letting people know I’ve arrived and don’t get it twisted.
What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
I’m passionate about music because it acts as a blank canvas for me to paint what I’m feeling and experiencing. It gives me a way to relate to others by baring my truths and even acts as a form of therapy because I get to leave the weight of anything I don’t want to carry on a beat. Music is an avenue to welcome others into the way that I see the world and create a fresh narrative. I’m inspired by change. The ability to create change and the ability to love myself and others through periods of change. I find inspiration in endings and welcoming new beginnings. Just the synchronicities and lessons that life offers me.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
I’d have to say my main musical influences consist of Aaliyah, Erykah Badu, SZA, and Jhené Aiko. They all have an undeniable swagger in music and in their demeanor that resonates with me as an artist and they make music with a purpose.
Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?
I’m currently promoting my latest project, Cycles. Cycles was inspired by the different phases that a seed goes through to bloom and how we as humans go through those similar phases to “bloom”.
The date that this project dropped or is set to drop?
Cycles dropped in June 2021 and my song, Flowers, was named best new R’n’B song by Apple Music.
What is this project about in your own words?
This project is about self-evolution and finding the right words to talk me through the different phases to reach my goals. It’s about making peace with the darkness and understanding that it can be just as enjoyable as being in the light. It’s all about gratitude and being confident in yourself and the path you’ve chosen.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.
Next is all about connecting with my current fans, making new fans, new music of course, and most importantly, live performances. I’ll be releasing live renditions of some of my songs at the end of October so be on the lookout for those.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music and this project?
I hope that fans take away how valuable betting on yourself is and knowing that there are no limits on the life you desire for yourself, other than those you create in your mind. I hope that my fans can make peace with all of their truths and use it as a catalyst to push them forward.
