The couple are not technically “divorced,” but have been living separately since 2016, according to Jada Pinkett Smith.
The last few years Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have definitely been open with the world regarding their complex marriage. Jada’s show Red Table Talk, which she was the host on. During the time span of the show, the couple and the entire family did not hold back from bringing personal “problems” to the camera. Since then, Jada has opened up about their marriage during a sit-down interview with Hoda Kotb. She admitted that she and Will have been living apart since 2016.
The interview is set to air on October 13th during an NBC prime-time special where she will be talking about the complex dynamics of her marriage. There is a sneak peek of the interview making its rounds on the internet where Jada revealed that the two have been living two completely separate lives since 2016. “We were still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be partners, right, and in regard to how we present it to people.” She continues and says, “And we have not figured it out.”
Jada is getting personal
It is interesting to see a couple we all grew up mimicking and aspiring to be like, to be so real and raw with the world regarding something that can be considered a private matter. Jada also expressed that since 2016, their marriage has not been the same. “I think by the time we got to 2016, we both were just exhausted from trying,” she expressed during the clip. “I think we were both kind of just stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
When the conversation went into whether either of the two contemplated divorce, she said, “I made a promise that there would never be a reason for us to get divorce. We will work there whatever. And I just have not been able to break that promise.” She will also talk about her recent memoir, which is titled Worthy, and is expected to be available for purchase on October 17th.
