Atlanta-based singer Kay Soul is back with a bold new single called “In Between,” which dropped on June 27. The song gives fans a taste of her upcoming album Heavy Set, coming in August. Mixing 90s R&B vibes with gospel and hip-hop, Kay Soul’s sound is all about emotion, honesty, and healing.
“In Between” shows a deeper, more spiritual side of her. The song talks about what it feels like to be stuck between where you are now, and where you want to be. It’s about pushing through life’s challenges and keeping the faith when things get tough.
Kay tells Remixd Magazine that her music is inspired by legends. People like Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, and Lauryn Hill, as well as 90s new jack swing and early 2000s neo-soul. Moreover, her lyrics are deep and meaningful, layered with smooth harmonies and creative beats that aim to lift people up.

Furthermore, Kay says that her upcoming album Heavy Set is super personal. She reveals it’s like “diary entries to [her] soul.” Thus, the project talks about how it feels to live in a world full of pressure.
“The project was inspired by my personal experiences and observations of the world and being considered a heavy-set person,” she explains. “And how that plays into the heavy-set pressures of existing in a world consumed with artificial standards of beauty and success.”
“Heavy Set examines how we value ourselves and show up in the world,” Kay continues. “I reference biblical scripture as well as use metaphors to tell parables designed to be a guide on the journey of life. It’s soul food.”
In addition, the music video for “In Between” drops on 4th of July this year. Furthermore, fans can expect more live shows around Atlanta. Kay’s also working on launching her own label, Cornerstone Drive, and hopes to go on tour in the spring.
With this project, Kay wants people to heal, grow, and understand their true value. “You’re worthy of real love,” she says. “To become your best self, you have to go against what the world tells you and trust God to guide you.”
