Kendrick Lamar is gearing up to take one of the biggest stages of his career. Kendrick announced he will perform at the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime show in a collaborative visual with Roc Nation, Apple Music, and the NFL on Sunday. Super Bowl LIX will be held on Sunday, February 9th, 2025 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Additionally, the news comes on the first NFL Sunday of the 2024- 2025 season.
Furthermore, Kendrick has taken this time to reintroduce himself. During the announcement visual, Kendrick humbly shares the news of his upcoming performance while shooting footballs out of a football cannon. “What’s the deal everybody, My name Kendrick Lamar and I’ll be performing at Super Bowl 59,” he said in the video announcement. Additionally, Kendrick cordially invites fans to attend or join from home throughout the just over one minute announcement visual. “Will you be pulling up? I hope so!” he added. Moreover, Kendrick was handpicked by Roc Nation’s founder and rap heavyweight, Jay-Z. Additionally Jay also holds the title of NFL’s live music entertainment strategist. In 2019, Jay-Z partnered with the NFL through his Roc Nation entertainment company giving Jay creative rights in the development of the Super Bowl halftime show for the next five years. Moreover, Jay explained his reasoning behind hand-selecting Kendrick for this year’s big show in a recent statement. “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come, ” he said.
Ultimately, this isn’t Kendrick’s first time appearing in the NFL Super Bowl halftime show as a performer. In 2022, he joined Dr. Dre for the Super Bowl LVI Halftime show in a star-studded lineup featuring Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent Snoop Dogg, and Eminem. This time, Kendrick is set to takeover the headlining slot. Nonetheless, it appears that Kendrick’s “Not Like Us” era is catapulting into longevity.
