Kendrick Lamar is currently celebrating two milestones. Not only does the west-coast rapper turn 34 today, his 2012 certified triple platinum album good kid, m.A.A.d city just hit the 8-year mark (roughly 450 weeks) on the Billboard 200 chart. Considering this is a rare accomplishment for an album, especially in Hip Hop, it is fair to say Kendrick has plenty to toast up about this evening.
good kid, m.A.A.d city is still the longest-charting Hip Hop album in Billboard history. The project debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned Kendrick four Grammy Award nominations at the 2014 Grammys, including Album of the Year. With songs produced by Dr. Dre, Just Blaze, Pharrell Williams, and Hit-Boy, one can not deny Kendrick created a masterpiece that will continue to stand the test of time in Hip-Hop. The album holds classic records such as “The Recipe,”“Swimming Pools (Drank),”“Backseat Freestyle,”“Poetic Justice” and “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.”
With Kendrick Lamar’s recent headline announcement at the Day N Vegas festival in November, fans wonder if they can expect new music from one of the most influential rappers of our generation. To fuel this thought, earlier this month, rapper The Game suggested that a new Kendrick album is on the way and that he is dropping music “real soon.” It has also been reported that Lamar has six albums worth of material to pull from according to MixedByAli’s “The ETCs” podcast.
