The trilogy continues this Friday, December 11.
Kid Cudi today announced the release date of his upcoming seventh studio album Man on the Moon III: The Chosen — set to drop this Friday.
In a tweet, Cudi posted a photo of the tracklist of the new project, which features artists like Pop Smoke, Skepta, Phoebe Bridgers, and Trippie Redd. The announcement also showcased the album art (created by artist Sam Spratt), and a message on the back reading, “Scott Mescudi has been through hell and back. After feeling like his world was over, he found hope and overcame the darkness that was plaguing his life.”
Man on the Moon III: The Chosen will be the third installment in the Man on the Moon trilogy. His first solo album Man on the Moon: The End of Day came out in September 2009. Early this year, Man on the Moon: The End of Day landed on The Rollingstone’s The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, at the #459 spot. His sophomore album Man On the Moon, Vol. II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard album charts, debuted in 2010 the following year and was well-received, solidifying the sequel and his career very early on.
Cudi began teasing the new album in October of this year, with a minute and a half log video featuring clips from his Man on the Moon music videos and concerts, followed by Cudi pulling up in an SUV playing unreleased music. The clip ends reading, “The trilogy continues… soon.”
The long-waited final feature of the trilogy comes more than a decade after the last installment. Kid Cudi also tweeted that the video for his track for “She Knows This,” directed by Nabil Elderkin, will be dropping Thursday. “She Knows This” will be Cudi’s first music video in four years.
