Chicago natives Kilo The Dreamer and SOUTHSIDE RICO NOCAP joined forces on their project ‘Ova East x Out South’ to tell their story of struggle and success

Kilo The Dreamer and SOUTHSIDE RICO NOCAP came together to drop a collab project with the objective of sharing their story through music.

The two artists hail from Chicago, Kilo The Dreamer is from the East side of Chicago, and SOUTHSIDE RICO NOCAP is from the South side hence the name of the EP.

The two artists have opposite sounds of music but both carry a gritty energy.

Kilo The Dreamer’s name came to be due to the weight he felt from the constant losses and struggles in life. He shared that “The Dreamer part came from always knowing I was going to do something bigger than the norm. Hopefully showing people they can accomplish their dreams too.”

SOUTHSIDE RICO NOCAP name came from him being bored and incarcerated in 2015, he had nothing else to do and ended up writing on the wall SOUTHSIDE RICO NOCAP. The first part of his name is given being he’s from the Southside of Chicago, the second part of his name is a play on his first name (Derrick) and the third part of his name came from not being with the rap cap.

Dreamer’s passion comes from the music allowing him to be himself in a unique and raw way. “I’m inspired by creativity and how it can impact change in more than just my life.”

RICO’s passion for music comes from the rapper finding it hard to express himself. The music is a great way for him to get his thoughts out and get therapy without seeing a therapist. What inspires him about music is the impact that music can leave on people and culture.

Kilo The Dreamer’s musical influences stem from life and its experiences.

SOUTHSIDE RICO NOCAP musical influences also come from his life, the story life gave him, and the environment the city of Chicago places him in.

The duo just dropped their collaboration Album titled “Ova East x Out South”. The project is filled with various trap bangers with catchy hooks. The concise project starts off swinging with the intro track “Gotham“. This sets the stage with energetic flows and banging instrumental.

The album was released on March 17th, 2023 and gained over 40,000 within 12 hours it also debuted on IHeartRadio that morning.

Each artist plays to the strengths on the tape, seamlessly bouncing off each other and meshing their styles effortlessly. “One Of Them” is the best showcase of this.

Filled with passion, melodies and superb production the projects sees many heights including “Red Bully” and “Windy Throw“.

Coming together to put on for Chicago was important for the duo. “The core was the fact that both of us represented two sides of our city. Which we wanted to bring together and highlight to the world through music.”

“The project is about Kilo The Dreamer and SOUTHSIDE RICO NOCAP really. The Chicago we know, love and hate. Our story of struggle and success. Our support for women. The sounds of our pain due to loss but also our desire to overcome. Our work and results silence the haters. “Ova East x Out South” is about Us!”

The Chicago artists are aiming to stay busy this year and make their mark on hip-hop.

‘We have an upcoming feature with G Herbo artist from 150 Dream Team, Pretty Savage, dropping this summer. Along with more follow-up singles set to release this year. We’re also both working on solo projects that don’t have a release date yet.”
