LA based artist Un’tld gets honest about police brutality in new song ‘Tired’

“My passion for music just comes from my love of doing it, seeing the response that I get from people and, the joy that it brings other people keeps me motivated to go even crazier on the next one that they hear,” Un’tld told Remixd Magazine.

Un’tld is an independent artist based in Los Angeles who’s dedicated to his craft and determined to win. He has a unique lyrical flow that matches his solid delivery on every song. He recently put out a new song called “Tired,” featuring Jordan James, that serves as one of his most striking projects to date and sets the tone for his journey as a rising artist.

His latest song “Tired,” ft. Jordan James is an impactful track that talks about police brutality and violence against African American communities. On the track, Un’tld gets real and honest about his feelings towards the situations currently going on in America, and he’s “tired” of watching his people dying at the hands of the police.

With a powerful delivery and impressive lyrics, Un’tld showcases his craft as a storyteller and somebody who isn’t afraid to be loud. He uses his voice to spread a message that needs to be heard, and it’s clear that he’s not stopping anytime soon. With a few other singles under his belt, Un’tld shares that the main message he wants people to take away from his music is that “they learn that life is full of ups, downs, and harsh realities.”

Keep reading to learn more about Un’tld and what inspires his music.

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?

Born and raised in LA and thats where I plan on staying.

What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?I

go by Un’tld (untitled) but my real name is Brandan Bennett. I came up with the name because I wanted a name that reflected the type of artist that I am. A name that didn’t have much meaning in it so that I can grow that name into something meaningful that people care about. I didn’t like the idea of picking a “rapper” sounding name because I’m more than just a rapper I see myself as an artist who doesn’t like to be boxed into one idea or one lane, I think having room to be versatile is more fun and keeps music interesting for a long time.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?

Well I knew I wanted to make music since I was two years old, but I really started taking it seriously when I was about 13 and got a chance to rap in front of my whole middle school of more than 300 people. I was in a cypher with some other kids who went there and we were rapping about taking the CST over Kanye and Jay-Z’s “N—as in Paris” beat. The moment I got the mic in my hand the entire school got up and screamed at the top of their lungs — so loud that you could barely hear what I was saying over these big stadium speakers they had. In that moment I felt a feeling that I just cant explain. To have that many people screaming my name all at once just because I could rap was a life changing experience that only fueled my desire for performing and being an artist.

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?

Yeah growing up I’ve always had a strong sense of independence. Not really wanting or needing much help to reach my goals. I feel I really got that from my environment and the people I had around me, knowing that nothing in life comes free and easy made me just apply that mentality to my music, and thats why I go so hard as an independent artist to turn all my dreams into reality.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

Aggressive, creative, raw, and just a little bit of everything. Like I said I really like to have the room to be versatile so that plays a big part in how my music sounds.

What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?

Honestly my love for music made me dedicate myself to it. No matter how many times I would question wether or not music was the career for me, or how many times I would doubt myself, I would always find myself back at the computer playing a beat and freestyling until I say a crazy line that makes me wanna write another song.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?

My passion for music just comes from my love of doing it, seeing the response that I get from people and, the joy that it brings other people keeps me motivated to go even crazier on the next one that they hear.

Tell us about your project “Tired,” featuring Jordan James. What it’s about?

It’s my latest single called “Tired” feat. Jordan James. It’s a song that talks about racism, social injustice and, recent events involving African Americans and the police. It’s a great song and also a very powerful one I think a lot of people need to hear. But before that you can go listen to my last project which is my mixtape “Born Ready” on Soundcloud.

What has the response been like to that project?

The response has been amazing, everyone says the song itself is hard and the message behind it is even better.

What are some projects you’ve done in the past that you are most proud of and why?

That would have to be my last two singles “Drop it Low” and “Peace of Mind.” “Drop it Low” because that song will always have a specialness to me. It was the first song that I released as a serious artist. It was and still is life changing, it’s opened a lot of doors for me and brought a lot of opportunity my way. For it to be my first full length and original song it has gotten a lot of attention and impressed not only myself but a lot of other people. “Peace of Mind” because it was the first time I wanted to experiment with how I sounded and do something a little more personal and emotional, focusing on a lo-fi type of vibe that people really never heard me do before, so I was skeptical on dropping it but the response I got was so much love and people who could relate to it so that only helped me to be more comfortable and confident in my music

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

Just be ready for more music coming soon. I got a couple singles in the tuck that I think a lot of people will love and maybe even an EP on the way. I just dropped my single “Tired” available on all streaming platforms so, until those drop you can go listen to some of my older but still recent stuff.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music?

I hope they learn that life is full of ups, downs, and harsh realities. Everything isn’t just diamond chains, cuban links, and Rolls Royces like all of our socials want us to believe, you just have to be willing to see what the world has to offer because its much more than what’s in front of the phone.
