Despite being one of the most prominent female rappers in the game, Latto often doesn’t receive the recognition she deserves. However, less than a year after its release, her track “Blick Sum” is now experiencing a resurgence, thanks to a remix featuring Playboi Carti. Originally featured on Latto’s third studio album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, the song gets an ‘old-school’ remix treatment with a new verse and an accompanying video. While their collaboration may seem unexpected, their shared Atlanta roots add depth to the pairing.
This remix marks the first time the two artists have worked together, bringing their distinct styles together for a high-energy collaboration.
While Playboi Carti’s presence on the track commands attention, Latto’s adaptability remains a key strength. Her ability to connect with diverse audiences is a testament to her versatility, a skill honed through artist development. On this track, she adjusts her delivery to align with Carti’s distinct flow, showcasing her range as an artist.
Produced by Kid Hazel, his menacing production sets the tone for this star-studded collab. The record starts with this eerie siren that is followed up by Latto talking directly to the fans to build anticipation. But once that beat drops, the intensity rises to match Latto’s energy. Then once Carti enters the picture, it feels like all hell breaks loose as he takes matter into his own and runs with the song. Watch the video below.

Despite significant anticipation ahead of its release, the track has received a mixed response. Playboi Carti’s fanbase is known for its passionate engagement, though some reactions have sparked debate, particularly regarding gender dynamics in hip-hop. So it surely doesn’t come as a surprise that majority of them were unhappy to listen to any song that includes a female rapper. In fact, from the few people who did have something to positive to say, it was in regards to complimenting Latto’s physical features. This alone showed me that our youth has a lot of of maturing to do.
“Latto in that ‘Blick Sum’ video is really outrageously otherworldy,” one person tweeted.
“I wish Carti started twerking in the ‘Blick Sum’ video instead of Latto no one wants to see that,” another person said.

Let’s keep it a bean, these producers keep wasting good beats on the white girl from Lovejoy and it’s getting sad at this point. The beat actually slaps, it’s simplistic but you can tell it bumps in the whip with the heavy… pic.twitter.com/YkG6iEEQEa
blick sum gotta be the weakest carti drop in past few years

Given the rarity of a new Playboi Carti verse, one might expect excitement from fans. However, much of the conversation remains centered on his long-delayed album, I AM MUSIC. Could this Atlanta duo have more collaborations in store? And if so, might Latto make a surprise appearance on Carti’s upcoming project? Let us know your thoughts!
