Lil Durk announces '7220' album release date

The anticipation for 2/22/22 grows even more as Lil Durk announces he’s dropping his highly anticipated 7220 album that day. Just days after the Chicago veteran confirmed the album is done, he’s choosing to give fans very little wait for a release. Durkio broke the news himself on Twitter last night that he’s dropping his seventh solo album the same day as ‘Ye.

7220 pays homage to the home of his beloved grandmother that played a big role in his adolescence. As in own words, “7220 [is] my granny address, the house it all started in.” He hasn’t said much on the album’s direction but it’ll be interesting to see how much vulnerability will be in the album given its title. The tracklist isn’t confirmed but Durk already has two potential singles out with “Money Powder Respect” with 50 Cent and “Rumors” with Gucci Mane.

Durkio’s release date comes weeks after he announced the nationwide tour for the album. While the announcement seems late, The Voice has every right to feel confident in his forthcoming project. Given the rapper’s new rebirth of stardom, Durk has solidied his new level of stardom the past two years. His last solo album, The Voice, was met with critical acclaim and is certified gold. His collaborations with everyone from Kanye West to Pooh Shiesty to Drake have all been hits. His collaborative album with Lil Baby Voice of the Heroes was one of last year’s most successful releases.

His latest artistry evolution has turned him from chart topper to chart bully. In fact, Durk took the title for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries last year by any artist. Given the hot streak Smurk is on, all eyes will be on 7220 to see if the album is another essential in the OTF Captain’s catalogue.
