Aquarius Boy is out now on all platforms!
Lil Vict is an independent artist from Canada who’s ready to show the world what he’s capable of. He’s new to the game and started releasing music just within the last year, but his debut project Aquarius Boy is finally out and shows audiences what he can do.
A few standouts on the 6-track project include “Lies,” and “Dior Fragrance,” both of which put Lil Vict’s skills on full display. The rising talent proves that he can be versatile on a track, which is an important quality to have in today’s day and age of making music. His sound is unique, distinguishable, and truly sets himself apart from others.
In a recent interview, Lil Vict told RemixdMagazine that he tries to embrace his hispanic roots within his music. He actually lived in Mexico for about two years, and that’s what inspired him ultimately to pursue a career in music. When he moved back to Canada, he realized that he had plenty of opportunities and resources to really dedicate himself to music. According to Vict, some artists who inspire him include “Drake,” and other Canadian artists such as Houdini and Northsidebeji.”
“I like the style of DDG and Justin Rarri as well,” he added. “They are so versatile which captures my attention. My mood can change and I could get into a feeling of Pop Smoke or NLE choppa and make a song like that”
As far as what he hopes people take away from his music, Lil Vict hopes that his fans know that not all rap music has to sound the same.
“I hope they can relate with my music and take a vibe with it so they come back after and listen again,” he continued.

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?
I am from a small town in Alberta, Canada called Beaumont. With an approximate population of 20,000, it is definitely a small community. Being an artist in a small community, you definitely stand out.
What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?
My name is Victor Castellon, I decided to go by Lil Vict not because of all of the stigma of being a “lil” but my friends thought it was ironic to be called a lil because of my height 6’1”. Now mostly all my friends call me Vic and know me personally so I thought in order to switch it up I can call myself Vict. In the beginning I didn’t like how it sounded although after time I now liked the name. Now, people call me Vict instead of “Vict” which I find is pretty cool.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?
Back in high school specifically 10th grade, I would say that I could freestyle and one day this person in my class told me that I was terrible at music and that I should never do it. Although I loved music, I didn’t let it get to me. But ever since then, for two years straight, I free-styled in my room looking up words, watching youtube videos, just trying to improve my ability. During my senior year, I ended up surprising my peers when I did a freestyle during the lunch hour. I completely changed everyone’s opinion of my music and felt proud at the fact that I improved. Fast forward to Oct 2019, it was around midnight and I had just got off work with my friend and I had a youtube beat in my mind for the whole work shift, I recorded a freestyle work on it and showed it to my friend the next day and he told me to release it and see how it does. Although I was nervous, I found a producer which now I work with him for almost every project (4evrshx) and we made what is now “Reality.” Ever since I saw all the positive feedback that I received I knew I had to keep going and not just die out. After recording more music, I fell in love with the process of recording and all the steps there is to do to make a record. So I would say last year is when I started to take this seriously.
Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?
Music was always around in my life. My father was in a band when he was younger and always was in love with music which made me feel more inclined to learn something that was related to music although I did not like his genre, I ended up finding my own genre with rap. I try to include my hispanic roots in my music, whether it is through my beat selection or my lyrics. I was raised in the suburbs and lived in Mexico for about two years. Having family over there and seeing the situation and how it’s different and how I live here, I thought to myself that it would be easier for me to proceed with a career in music because I have all the resources I need.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
I would tell them that Lil Vict’s voice first of all is very distinct from everyone else. It sounds unique and catches listeners’ ears. His melodic cadence in his songs are personalized to his peers and they capture your attention. He can flow on a drill beat, a melodic beat, a guitar beat or even a dancehall beat. His versatility opens up the road for new listeners to capture their ear too.
What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
The recording process. Going into a studio and coming out with a nice song. From start to finish, I get a jolt of adrenaline and want to finish what I start. I’m very open to feedback when my producers tell me something good or not. We work on it and try to make it the best it can possibly be. What also inspires me is seeing my peers elevate and wanting to help others with their journey as well.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
Because I’m Canadian, I look up to artists like Drake and others such as Houdini and Northsidebeji. I like the style of DDG and Justin Rarri as well. They are so versatile which captures my attention. My mood can change and I could get into a feeling of Pop Smoke or NLE choppa and make a song like that. It really depends what I’m feeling but those I would say are my top picks.
What are some of your music career goals for the future?
My main goal is just to live comfortably knowing that I have inspired hundreds or eleven thousands to start music as other artists did to me. By doing that you can change someone’s life and not even know you did that.
Tell us about your debut EP Aquarius Boy.
5 months ago, I started planning and making what is now my debut EP Aquarius Boy. I chose this name because in the cover art I feel it signifies what my journey has been. Me in the middle of a giant city lost trying to find my way to success. I am underwater — signifying the meaning that I am drowning because of all the eyes and all the pressure I am receiving from others. The logo YEG is representative of where I’m from Edmonton Alberta Canada. More specifically Beaumont Alberta. And most importantly the name Aquarius of course signifies my zodiac sign. The EP is composed of 6 songs. All testing my different abilities in each song. From a melodic intro to an aggressive middle half of the EP. It is definitely one of my best works and I’m so happy to have put all of this work into it. With the support I have been receiving in the past month I can only hope for good things.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.
I am planning to film a music video in November for the track “Dior Fragrance” so stay tuned for that video.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music?
That not all rap music has to sound the same. Nowadays rap music is turning into generic music where there is so much undiscovered talent. I hope they can relate with my music and take a vibe with it so they come back after and listen again.
