Truth be told, indie R&B singer/songwriter, Noeva’s songwriting abilities are in the upper echelon when discussing emerging vocalists. Don’t get me wrong, she can sing her ass off, but when you want to hear an artist takes you to another world with their words, you know who you can call on. I always tell people, if you’re capable of writing a great song you’ll stick around in this industry because that’s a skill only a few have mastered. So once you listen to Noeva’s most recent release “With You”, it’s clearly a no-brainer that the north London singer is here to stay for years to come.
Speaking on her recent release, Noeva shares: “This track was inspired by the pandemic period but also inspired by love. Sometimes we act like we don’t need someone because of pride or that we are cool on our own out of fear of rejection when the reality is we just want that special someone around.”
Talk about tough decisions. In “Without You”, Noeva paints a vivid picture of what it’s like to be in a place where you feel alone and afraid. Not trying to be “Captain Obvious”, but the pandemic was hard on everyone, especially on people who thrive off human contact. So I do genuinely appreciate this track for expounding on what it feels like to reach emotional exhaustion. Funny enough, I hear lots of Solange influence in Noeva’s music. I feel like both of them make music that just does something to my soul. I love music that pierces my soul, and “Without You” is one of those tracks my heart can deeply resonate with.
I’m starting to think there’s something in the water because left and right, brilliant R&B artists are appearing out of nowhere. I wouldn’t say we’re nearing the golden age of the genre again, but listening to Novea certainly gives me hope.
