When asked how he’d describe his sound to readers, Indianapolis artist JAYE B said, “I feel like my sound is more on the mellow side, with a different texture to it which is kind of this airy, aquatic and digital/gritty vibe but it can definitely range in feel and even genres.”
Despite crediting the likes of J. Cole, Kanye West, JAY-Z, and Lil Wayne as musical influences, his newest project 4 U draws more from the R&B and Neo-Soul that he grew up on in order to create the spacey, digital vibe he spoke about.
Born Jeffery Berry, JAYE B started releasing music in January of 2013 via SoundCloud. Many of his earliest recordings were done through his iPod touch. Since then, Berry has released three projects, countless singles and laid the groundwork for a buzzing Indianapolis scene.
Above all else, Berry aims to build his legacy as a driving force for the Indianapolis scene by creating “bodies of work that stand the test of time” and using his music to give back to his hometown.
“God put me on this planet to use the gift he gave me to create so I’m going to utilize that to its fullest potential,” he explained.
Looking towards the foreseeable future, JAYE B looks to release a deluxe version of his project Thorns as well as several singles. However, he explains his approach to releasing music as “impulsive” so stay tuned for more great music from the young artist!
