Queens native JLShotThat is responsible for some of the most iconic music videos out of New York in the last few years. By working with the late-great Pop Smoke, Fivio Foreign, Young M.A., Lil Tjay, Smoove’L, J.I. the Prince of NY, and more, he has been the leading force and a go-to video director that artists can trust to create a cinematic masterpiece.
JLShotThat (real name Jeremi Lam) has an artistry that uses story-telling to capture the message that rappers want to portray while greatly depicting the environment where drill music came about. From videos such as Pop Smoke’s platinum record “Dior”, and “War” featuring Lil Tjay, as well as Fivio’s “Big Drip,” “Wetty,” and “Drive By”, to LilTjay’s “Zoo York” featuring Pop Smoke and Fivio Foreign, JLShotThat has a track record of flawlessly bringing an artist’s vision to life.
“I would describe myself as a man of many hats. There’s not much I am not willing to do, or learn to get a job done!” said JL in a recent interview. “I’ve been a carpenter, bartender, audio engineer, recording artist/songwriter, and now a video director to say the least. I want to be able to provide for generations to come.”
As JL gained experience in multiple jobs, including some in the entertainment industry, he used what was learned in the past to build his future empire. Inspired by legendary storytellers such as Hype Williams, Quentin Tarantino, Michael Jackson, and his mother who taught him to never give up, this visionary was destined for success.
“I got my start in the industry around four or five years ago when I was presented with a proposal by a good friend of mine to go, partners, if he bought me a camera of my choice, so that’s what we did! Ultimately we settled a deal and I started my new umbrella company Visionary Vision LLC.” JL explained. “I’ve been through a lot and done so much, I think my story can motivate people like me. Let them know that no matter the circumstances, as long as you give it your all, you can’t lose.”
When asked what words of advice he would have for people who aspire to a similar journey, JL expressed: “Some advice I would give is probably a cliche to most, but honestly you can never give up! And practice as much as you can on your craft. That will equate to your value! And don’t be too cool to ask questions! Everyone needed help!”
As he has worked with nearly every rising star out of New York and directed some of the most iconic moments in drill music, JLShotThat will continue to make a ‘movie’ with every project he graces. Be on the lookout for a JLShotthat YouTube series and his very own Visionary Vision Studios company that will be in the works very soon.
