New Music Friday: 10 songs you gotta check out from this week

Happy New Music Friday everybody! Here are 10 tracks you need to listen to from this week.

Megan Thee Stallion – Shots Fired

Meg’s long-awaited debut studio Good News dropped today with features from SZA, Beyonce, Young Thug, and DaBaby. However, one song that lit the internet on fire was the Tory Lanez diss track “Shots Fired.” The H-Town Hottie airs out her frustrations surrounding the situation between the two rappers and the instigation from fans and haters.

Meek Mill – Pain Away ft. Lil Durk

“Pain Away” is the second track off of Meek Mill’s highly anticipated EP Quarantine Pack. The Philly rapper teased the songs for months on his Instagram and certainly didn’t disappoint. The Lil Durk assisted cut, in particular, is a clear standout mixing grandiose, drawn-out soul samples and synth keys with lyrics about loyalty and making it out of the mud.

DaBaby – Gucci Peacoat

Earlier this month, DaBaby’s older brother Glenn Johnson tragically took his own life at the age of 34. The Charlotte native’s new project My Brother’s Keeper immortalizes his brother with heartfelt tracks about their relationship and the pain DaBaby went through after hearing of his brother’s tragic passing. “Gucci Peacoat” pulls on the listener’s heartstrings and becomes even more gut-wrenching after watching the accompanying video that has scenes from Johnson’s funeral.

Rich the Kid & Youngboy Never Broke Again – Sorry Momma ft. Rod Wave

Youngboy Never Broke Again follows up last week’s album Until I Return with a collaborative effort with Rich the Kid. The 15 track collab features Lil Wayne, Quando Rondo, and Rod Wave, who appears on “Sorry Momma.” The track highlights the difficulties of growing up too fast, the perks and perils of wealth, and dealing with problems alone.

Lil Uzi Vert & Future – Tic Tac

After releasing Pluto x Baby Pluto last week, Future and Uzi are back with five new tracks for the album’s deluxe. “Tic Tac” sees Uzi channel some of the “old uzi” that fans have been yearning for. Future taps in for the second half of the track and goes absolutely ballistic for one of his most energetic verses from the entire project.

Sabrina Claudio – Warm December

“Warm December” is the first single without a feature from Miami native Sabrina Claudio since her critically acclaimed 2019 album Truth Is. The sultry track flexes the singer’s angelic voice over an open guitar melody. Hopefully, this track means that Claudio will be dropping more music in the new year.

SAINt JHN – Ransom ft. 6lack and Kehlani

Brooklyn’s own SAINt JHN dropped his debut studio album While The World Was Burning today with guest verses from Lil Uzi Vert, A Boogie Wit A Hoodie, DaBaby, and Future, who appeared on the remix of his viral smash “Roses.”The album’s 11th track “Ransom” is a slower R&B ballad detailing the artist’s struggles dealing with fame and both Kehlani and 6lack lend their perspectives on the same topic.

Lil Eazzyy – Finally Rich

Chicago up-and-comer Lil Eazzyy broke onto the scene with his bubbling track “Onna Come Up,” an energetic song that gives the young rapper a space to flex an infectious rapid-fire flow. “Finally Rich” showcases his ability to utilize a more melodic flow to talk about making it out of Chicago. Eazzyy recently signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and has since been featured on the cover of Spotify’s Most Necessary playlist.

Savannah Ré – Opia

Savannah Ré’s debut project Opia comes on the heels of her two successful tracks “Homies” and “Solid”. The project is based on the definition of Opia which is defined as “the ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye, which can feel simultaneously vulnerable and invasive.” Ré’s debut, and the album’s title track, encompass this phenomenon perfectly, and the “Opia” visual sees couples and strangers staring at each other in the eye in order to experience this sensation.

Cautious Clay – Dying in the Subtlety

Cleveland singer Cautious Clay’s track “Dying in the Subtlety” is a bubbly and vibrant track that showcases Clay’s pen game and serves as a great song to play while cruising around in your car with friends. Clay is best known for his track “Cold War” off of his 2018 project Blood Type.
