New Music Friday: The best new music, featuring Summer Walker, Wale, Ken Carson, and more

Summer Walker

The best new music from November 14th!

It’s New Music Friday! Most importantly, it’s another week in which we are treated to new music. Generally speaking, November has been fairly consistent, leaving room for a smash hit. This week’s edition of New Music Friday features standout releases from Summer Walker, Wale, Ken Carson, and many more. Read on to find the latest tracks and albums that dropped this week.

New Music Friday Picks

Summer Walker – ‘Finally Over It’ (Album)

To conclude her iconic album series, Summer Walker recently released ‘Finally Over It.’ Although, this album isn’t necessarily bad, the majority of the tracks feel lackluster or miss the mark due to misplaced features. Part of me, misses her working with London, even though their personal relationship ruined any chance of a musical reunion.

Wale – ‘everything is a lot.’ (Album)

For the past 15 years, Wale has been a treasure to hip-hop and doesn’t nearly get enough praise that he should. As compared to many of his original peers, his new album speaks to his longevity. This album is peak Wale, as it has amazing production, great raps, and even greater features.

Ken Carson – “margiela”

Despite being signed to a label notoriously known for starving their fans, Ken Carson has been on a healthy stretch of consistent drops. “margiela” makes me want to believe that the X-Man is on a generational run and currently the leader of the underground rap scene. The only thing preventing him from breaking into the mainstream is a Billboard chart-topping single.

Female Fetales

Lola Brooke – ‘iight bet’ (EP)

Despite her miniature stature, Lola Brooke’s music has always packed a big punch. ‘iight bet’ picks up where “Don’t Play Wit It” leaves off, reminding listeners not to count her out. Despite not having a follow-up to her biggest release, this EP could be a step in the right direction for her reemergence.

Ice Spice – “Big Guy”

Surely, no one foresaw the future and predicted Ice Spice and SpongeBob SquarePants to team up. “Big Guy” doesn’t follow the typical formula of other lead movie soundtrack singles as it allows Spice to do what she does best. Sure, the track misses the mark sonically, but you have to commend her brand for not watering down her sound for financial gain.

R&B Corner

Masego – “I Win”

After a long time, people are starting to come around to Masego thanks to the TikTok community. “I Win” builds off of that success and defines what he brings to the table. In this romantic-themed single, he perfectly encapsulates and paints a vivid picture of what ultimate peace looks like in a relationship.

Jon Keith – ‘BUTTERFLIES’ (EP)

Literally fresh from tour with Madison Ryann Ward, Jon Keith has hit the ground running with a new EP. With this being a direct successor to ‘GROW WINGS,’ he noticeably brings a similar vibe with a twist to it. In other words, this is a must-listen if you can deeply appreciate Jon pouring out his raw emotions.

Rapper’s Delight

FearDorian – ‘Before You Press Play’ ft quinn (Album)

To conclude this edition of New Music Friday, we have a collab album FearDorian & quinn. Impressively, both creatives are able to effectively utilize their production skillset to flesh this project out. It helps even more, that this project came at the perfect time, as it’s refreshing to see two artists who don’t rely on trends.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
