New Music Friday: The best new music featuring Lil Yachty/Concrete Boys, Swae Lee, and Bruno Mars

The best new music from the week of February 27th!

It’s New Music Friday! When all is said and done, this truly will be remembered as a legendary month for music and an even more epic way to end BHM. On that note, it’s only right that we finish February with a bang! This week’s edition features standout releases from Lil Yachty & the Concrete Boyz, Swae Lee, Bruno Mars, and many more. Read on to find the latest tracks and albums that dropped this week.

Lil Yachty & Concrete Boys – ‘It’s Us Vol. 2’ (Album)

On some level, it felt like modern rap groups were doomed to fail after the tragic end to acts like Migos or BROCKHAMPTON. From this angle, this seems like the direction that Yachty & Concrete Boys are trending towards on their newest compilation album. At its core, this album doesn’t feel right without any contributions from their beloved former member, KARRAHBOO. As time goes on, I have minimal faith that this group will even last or bring anything new to the table.

Swae Lee – “FLAMMABLE”

Extending this idea, that rap groups are obsolete, we have Swae Lee from Rae Sremmurd back doing solo music. In reality, Swae was always seen as the “Beyoncé” of the group, and “FLAMMABLE” further pushes this agenda. Laying the groundwork for his upcoming EP, this track confidently reminds you how he’s a one-man army when it comes to making hits.

Bruno Mars – ‘The Romantic’ (Album)

Even though, Bruno is widely regarded as a superstar, ‘The Romantic‘ easily has to be his least anticipated album ever. At this point in time, it seems that he constantly chooses to play it safe. Sonically speaking, his heavenly vocals aren’t enough to make this album feel memorable.

Rapper’s Delight

Yeat – “Made It On Our Own” ft EsDeeKid

At its core, “Made It On Our Own” is a complete letdown from a potentially interesting collaboration from Yeat & EsDeeKid On paper, this is supposed to be an elite pairing, but the end result is merely a generic trap song. To put it bluntly, this track is a big disappointment, primarily due to their neglect to pick a beat that fits either one of their styles.

CHASE B – ‘BE VERY AFRAID Vol. 1’ (Mixtape)

For the most part, it’s usually a great time guaranteed whenever a respected producer creates his own project. Yet, that is not the case for CHASE B’s ‘BE VERY AFRAID’ as it’s filled with throwaways. Although, every track is not bad, the lack of cohesiveness makes this a tough listen.

T.I. – “War”

Similarly, to the Drake/Kendrick beef, it showed the general public is extremely thirsty for any drama. By the same token, T.I.’s new diss to 50 has the world locked in looking for more chaos. Most importantly, T.I. was able to get a lot of his chest and hit Curtis where it hurts all in a runtime of less than two minutes.

R&B Corner

Elmiene – “Honour” ft Baby Rose

It should be noted, that R&B is totally back thanks to artists like Elmiene. More specifically, he dropped “Honour” to build hype for his album and the feeling is undeniable. Not to mention, he did a live performance for this ballad alongside a live band which helps take this track to new heights.

MOYANA – “NON-FICTION” ft 7VNTH

Lastly, our final spot of New Music Friday goes to Chicago vocalist, MOYANA. Lyrically speaking, she does a phenomenal job at taking a stand on everything wrong in today’s society such as the emergence of ICE. Ultimately speaking, she undoubtedly has a bright future based on her masterful songwriting ability.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
