The best new music from the week of January 9th!
It’s New Music Friday! More importantly, this is our first edition of New Music Friday for the new year. For that reason, we can’t quite contain our excitement to start this year with a bang. This week’s edition of N.M.F. features standout releases from Bruno Mars, French Montana/Max B, Chief Keef, and many more. Read on to find the latest tracks from the latest tracks and albums that dropped this week.
New Music Friday Picks
Bruno Mars – “I Just Might”
Without a doubt, Bruno Mars has been playing it very safe with his newer releases. “I Just Might” happens to be another song that feels like a generic soundtrack to a Target commercial. Simply put, if he wants to be an all-time pop star, he needs to push the boundaries and make artistically daring statements with his upcoming album.
French Montana & Max B – “Coke Wave 3.5: Narcos’ (Album)
Given that Max B was recently freed from prison, it’s only right that he reunites with long-time collaborator, French Montana for a new project. However, it’s apparent that being incarcerated has done irreparable damage to Max B’s artistry. In fact, French Montana was forced to do most of the heavy lifting, due to the fact that Max isn’t the same artist we fell in love with in the late 2000s.
Chief Keef – “Harry Potter”
Admittedly, Chief Keef does not get the credit he deserves as a producer. “Harry Potter” does a great job of showing his progression as both an artist & as a producer. As opposed to his past releases, Sosa sounds more focused and as if he’s perfected his style.
R&B Corner
Ari Lennox – “Twin Flame”
When it comes to Ari Lennox’s comeback, the apologies need to be as loud as the disrespect. While she did briefly fall off, “Twin Flame” is another instance of her reaching another artistic peak and being able to reinvent herself. Simply put, I think she’s back for good and don’t see her falling off again, especially with the release of her upcoming album, ‘Vacancy.’
Jill Scott – “Pressha”
Presently, still in the year 2026, Jill Scott is still cranking out timeless music. On this occasion, she released “Preesha” in preparation for her upcoming album. Certainly, this single makes a statement that she can always come back whenever she wants, due to her talent..
Female Fetales
Lisha G – “Options”
Generally speaking, South Carolina has never been known for producing musical talent and Lisha G is here to change that. “Options” feels like a breath of fresh air to the female rap landscape. Compared to some of her peers, the replay value in her music is rooted in nonstop good vibes.
Kash Alexus – “Moneyholic” ft Money Marc
In particular, while already on the topic of emerging female rappers, you can’t forget Kash Alexus. On “Moneyholic,” she brings a fearless mentality the way she attacks each verse. By way of example, this track will instantaneously light a fire in you and motivate you to get some money.
Rapper’s Delight
Larry June – “Who Coppin”
Lastly, our last pick is going to Larry June and his newly released single, “Who Coppin.” Obviously, it wouldn’t be a Larry June song if he didn’t push you to get your life on track. In essence, this is how we should all be moving with positive intention for the rest year. So to that I say, “Thanks Larry.”
We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
