New Music Friday: The best new music, featuring Metro Boomin, Mariah the Scientist, Rema and more

The best new music from the week of August 1st!

It’s New Music Friday! August is finally here, and we are continuously being blessed with new releases. This week’s edition of N.M.F. features standout releases from Metro Boomin, Mariah the Scientist, Rema, and many more. Read on to find the latest tracks and albums that dropped this week.

New Music Friday Picks

Metro Boomin – ‘A Futuristic Summa’ (Album)

As someone who was born and raised in Atlanta, I love what Metro Boomin did on his new album. It truly sounds like something straight out of the 2010s, but with a modern take. But more importantly, you can tell how much effort went into this album, based on how they perfectly capture the “Swag Era” of rap. Over the years, rap has become too serious, and it feels like Metro brought back the fun that was missing.

Mariah the Scientist – “Is It a Crime” ft Kali Uchis

Mariah the Scientist has been on an absolute tear in 2025, and she continues that momentum with a new single. This time around, she’s teaming up with Kali Uchis, and it’s certainly the vocalist duo the world needed. This song was made for the real lovers, as both artists pour their hearts out.

Rema – “KELEBU

When it’s all said and done, Rema will likely be remembered as one of the best Nigerian artists ever. His versatility is put on full display on his new single, “KELEBU.” It’s something about the summer that brings the best out of his music/talent to peak level.

Rapper’s Delight

Yeat – ‘DANGEROUS SUMMER‘ (EP)

Miraculously, it’s safe to say Yeat has ended any discussion regarding him falling off. Ironically, his new album reminds you why he’s the same artist from when he debuted as he brings a similar intensity. It helps that his running mate, BNYX is by his side again, as he’s constantly pushing the boundaries of Yeat’s sound.

Homixide Gang – ‘Homixide Lyfestyle 2’ Album)

Opium signees, Homixide Gang have the potential to break into the mainstream thanks to their new release. Their aggressive flows pair perfectly with some of the most majestic rage beats truly a match made in heaven. Due to the fact that their label president, Playboi Carti didn’t clear his verse, this project won’t get the recognition it deserves.

TiaCorine – “Fall In Love”

North Carolina’s TiaCorine never once took her foot off the pedal after the viral success of “Freaky T.” On “Fall In Love,” you can still tell she possesses the same hunger thanks to her authenticity. For this song to have three verses, she switches up the vocal inflection each time, making it sound like three different artists. It’s certain we can’t count out TiaCorine in 2025 and the near future.

New Kids on The Block

Destin Laurel – “father’ i wonder”

Fatherhood is an overlooked topic in rap, and Destin Laurel has to be one of the first new artists to tackle it. “father’ i wonder” is one of those songs that feel like an ethereal experience listening thanks to the explosive production. The second half of the song is where he really begins to hit his stride as he samples Kanye’s “I Wonder.”

Miles Caton – “Something”

Best known for his role in “Sinners,” Miles Caton is in store for a long career in the music industry as well. “Something” is the perfect introduction for new listeners as he has a voice like no one else in music right now. The closest comparison for Miles has to be Donny Hathaway as they both sing in a unique, rich tone. Be on the lookout for Miles to be the next star to reach EGOT status.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
