The best new music from the week of June 18th!
It’s New Music Friday! Historically speaking, this might be the first summer in a while without an undisputed song of the summer. Hopefully, that can all change in this week’s edition of New Music Friday. This week’s edition features standout releases from Travis Scott, Saweetie, Tommy Richman, and many more. Read on to find the latest tracks and albums that dropped this week.
New Music Friday Picks
Travis Scott & Jackboys – ‘JACKBOYS 2’ (Album)
We’ve reached a point where we need to lower our expectations for Travis. ‘JACKBOYS 2’ solidifies the idea that his best days are long gone and he’s past his prime. For him to be so successful, he is not evolving as a rapper and is carried by his production. Luckily, there are a couple of standout performances from Don Tolliver & SoFaygo that make this album semi-listenable.
Saweetie – “boffum”
It truly feels like an eternity since we last heard from Saweetie. Her new single, “boffum” musically shows she still might have some gas left in the tank. If you don’t come into this track expecting her to be a master lyricist, then you won’t be disappointed. Perhaps there is some hope that her upcoming EP, ‘Hella Pressure,’ could live up to its name.
R&B Corner
Tommy Richman – “MIAMI”
As a fan of “Million Dollar Baby,” Tommy Richman’s fall from grace has been tough to watch. Recently, he dropped “MIAMI” and there sadly seems to be no growth from the once promising artist. It’s almost as if he is content with making the same song repeatedly. If only he were less afraid of sonically getting out of his comfort zone to be able to reach his full potential.
Toosii – “Even Then”
In an era where R&B acts are more often than not underappreciated, Toosii has had an impressive run so far. Even in 2025, he’s shown a lot of versatility, especially with his country-influenced single, “Even Then.” This is certainly one of those tracks where you have to hear the live version to appreciate it in its entirety. How he poured his heart out with such raw emotion on “Even Then” definitely turned me into a believer.
Tmuny – “Soluna”
If you aren’t hip to rising Chicago singer/songwriter Tmuny, then it’s time to tap into her genre-bending artistry. Her infectious new single, “Soluna,” is a great introduction as you get to see the fierce energy she brings to every track. On top of that, the song has a powerful message about being intentional about what you want in life.
Rapper’s Delight
Babyface Ray – “Netflix & Chill”
The way that Babyface Ray single-handedly carried the Detroit rap scene throughout the pandemic was a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. Because of this, I could never count him out and always made sure to tap into his new releases like “Netflix & Chill.” Rent must’ve been due for him, because he felt like he rewound the clock and transformed into his old self. He sounds hungrier than ever, and possibly could be the start of a new peak in his career.
Anycia – ‘Grady Baby’ (Mixtape)
ATL’s own, Anycia, just broke history by being the first female rapper to have a Gangsta Grillz mixtape hosted by DJ Drama. With there being a lot at stake, she didn’t succumb to the pressure and gifted her fans a work of art. At the core, this tape will be greatly appreciated by music fans who grew up on mixtapes, as she adds her flavor to some iconic tracks.
Yeat & BNYX – “I’M YEAT”
Certain artists have that one producer that brings the best out of them, and for Yeat it happens to be BNYX. BNYX gave Yeat one of his best beats for “I’M YEAT,” and the final result is otherworldly. If you can get past the dragged-out intro, it’s easy to see why this song is a hit. If he continues to flow this hard, his career is bound to have another resurgence.
We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
