New Music Friday Picks

Battles of the Exes

Cardi B – “Outside”

It’s incredibly impressive how Cardi B has maintained her relevance over the years without a sophomore album. By sporadically giving fans loose singles like “Outside,” she’s able to give fans that she never lost her swagger. Just don’t go into this track expecting her to reinvent her sound or give you something new. In actuality, be prepared to hear a fun track catered to the ladies just in time for the summer.

Offset – “Bodies” ft JID

How ironic/coincidental is that Cardi B’s ex-husband, Offset, drops the same day and steals her shine? Moreover, no one expected this collaboration or even expected Offset to lyrically hold his weight against a pure lyricist like JID. There’s certainly some truth to the theory that breakups bring the best out of rappers. Hopefully, his upcoming album is as half as good as this single.

Khamari – “Sycamore Tree”

It’s clear as day that emerging R&B singer Khamari is destined to be a star. His newly released single, “Sycamore Tree.” Despite all the Frank Ocean comparisons, he’s doing a great job of filling his void with his soothing vocals. His vocal performance in “Sycamore Tree” is so strong that it can make a non-believer believe in romance.

YTB Fatt – ‘Da Footprint’ (mixtape)

It was just last summer that YTB Fatt had the streets on lock and was positioning himself to be the face of Memphis rap. Thus, it’s plainly obvious that he’s trying to recreate that magic again with his new mixtape, ‘Da Footprint.’ If you don’t believe, check out the lead single, “I’m Him” featuring Moneybagg Yo. Moneybagg easily stole the show with his polarizing verse, as he reminds listeners, he’s still got it.

JayDon – “Boujee Baby” ft Zeddy Will

Following in the footsteps of Usher, JayDon is starting to make a name for himself with a recent hot streak. Hoping to continue his momentum, he released an R&B-infused drill single, “Boujee Baby” featuring Zeddy Will. It sucks that the youth don’t have a platform like 106 & Park, because this track would’ve gone platinum on there. At only 17 years old, JayDon seems to be everything we wanted in an R&B superstar.

Fresh Faces

LunchMoney Lewis – “Buttercup”

Miami-based songwriter/producer LunchMoney Lewis made sure to capitalize on Juneteenth with “Buttercup.” In the spirit of black love, this song encapsulates that feeling of a timeless love song. With this being the first single off his upcoming EP, there’s a lot to be excited about regarding his future and creative direction.

Samara Cyn – ‘backroads’ (EP)

Despite only being halfway through 2025, Samara Cyn has gone above and beyond to establish herself as a household name. Her long-awaited EP, ‘backroads‘ just dropped, and it’s a work of art. Her poetic style of rapping is fully displayed over some soulful production. Furthermore, one can hope that her debut album brings that same breath of fresh air as she continues to mature as an artist/songwriter.

Kenarri – Supposed 2

ATL’s Kenarri is making her second appearance on New Music Friday with “Supposed 2.” It feels as if she is one of those artists who needed time to grow, because she continues to evolve her sound. This track revolves around being young and making the most out of what life gives you. But she delivers the message with a bubbly, fun spirit that makes it almost impossible to appreciate her contagious energy.

Thanks for checking out this edition of New Music Friday!
