New Music Friday: The best new music this week, featuring Don Toliver, Lizzo, Teyana Taylor, and more

The best new music from the week of June 27th.

It’s New Music Friday! As June nears an end, there continues to be a steady influx of new music. It’s only right that Remixd Mag put the spotlight on a few releases that caught our ear — good and bad. This week’s edition features standout releases from Don Tolliver, Lizzo, Teyana Taylor, and many more. Read on to find the latest tracks and albums that dropped this week.

New Music Friday Picks

Don Toliver – “FWU”

Fresh off his headlining performance at Summer Smash, Don Toliver recently released “FWU.” Keeping the summer alive, this highly anticipated song finally saw the light of day after repeatedly being teased. Somehow, “FWU” lives up to the hype, and a lot of that has to do with the energizing production from Mustard. It seems to me that this beat does sound tailor-made for an artist like Carti, and Don adds his own Houston flavor to it.

Lizzo – ‘MY FACE HURTS FROM SMILING’ (Mixtape)

It’s remarkable to see how at 37 years old, Lizzo has completely reinvented herself. Building momentum for her next album, she took a left turn & surprisingly released a 13-track mixtape that shows off her underrated rapping abilities. Right now, this mixtape feels like her most versatile project to date, because you can tell she’s having fun. It’s worth noting that she is not taking herself too seriously this time, because there are a few quality gems like “IRL” featuring SZA.

R&B Corner

Teyana Taylor – “Bed of Roses”

What’s not to like about Teyana Taylor? This talented jack-of-all-trades gives her all in her romantic new single, “Bed of Roses.” Because of this, she channeled that vintage ’90s R&B feel both sonically and with the accompanying music video featuring her boyfriend, Aaron Pierre.

Dreezy – “TOXIC” ft T-Pain

No one could have foreseen the future, where it would become an everyday occurrence for a music artist to do a livestream. As an example, if you have been tapping into some T-Pain’s streams, then you would’ve seen this track come together from the beginning. Watching them build off each other’s energies in real time and having a natural chemistry makes them an underrated musical duo. No doubt, this is their best collaboration yet.

Fresh Faces

BabyChiefDoit – “Went West”

Look no further than 17-year-old rapper, BabyChiefDoit. For him to be so young, he’s one of Chicago’s hottest rappers and has shown no signs of slowing down. Continuing to grow as an artist, his self-produced single, “Went West” is proof that he’s far from a fluke. Asserting himself as the leader of the new wave of Chicago rap, this 2025 XXL Freshman currently has no ceiling to his success.

Fordo – ‘2001’ (Album)

The immense pressure that comes with an artist dropping is severe and unmatched. Rising pop/rap artist, Fordo refused to succumb to the pressure with his debut album, ‘2001’, and absolutely delivered. In short, his unique style bridges music from two different spectrums/decades while leaving room for his brilliant storytelling to flourish.

Highway – ‘Count or Die’ (Album)

With the emergence of Yeat, there certainly seems to be an underground rap scene forming in the Northwest part of the country. Seattle’s Highway has set himself apart from his peers, and his new album confirms he’s here to stay. His drugged-out flow fits perfectly in the new direction hip-hop has been heading in the past few years.

Shaddi G – “War With the System’

Anytime a rapper dedicates a track to societal issues, there seems to be a thin line preventing them from getting called corny. To my surprise, it was dope to hear New Jersey rapper, Shaddi G, not go the corny route and make something substantial. Admittedly, he has a great understanding of current events and can effectively articulate them within his music. Seeing him perform the track on OnTheRadar further confirmed my theory that he’s way wiser beyond his years.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s version of New Music Friday.
