New Music Friday Picks
Kali Uchis – “Cry about it!” ft Rayvn Lenae
In preparation for the deluxe version of her album, Kali Uchis just dropped “Cry about it!” Above all, this track is truly a cute ballad that works thanks to the soulful yet vintage vocals. On top of that, the unexpected collaboration with Rayvn Lenae takes the cake as she fits the track like a perfect puzzle piece.
Young Thug – “Miss My Dogs”
Without a doubt, it’s been a tough few weeks for Young Thug recently. What better way to face your problems than with a song directly addressing everything that’s transpired? In contrast to anything he’s dropped before, it seems like his most sincere song as he apologized to everyone he’s wronged. Suddenly, it finally feels like Thug has turned over a new leaf, building even more anticipation for his new album.
TiaCorine – “Backyard” ft JID
It truly was a matter of time til TiaCorine received her due credit as an artist, but “Backyard” changes all of that. Her days of being overlooked & underrated are over as she receives a major co-sign from one of the best lyricists. Furthermore, her bubbly spirit pairs well with JID’s intense flow resulting in a memorable listening experience.
R&B Corner
Jordan Ward – “Juicy”
When the world needed him the most, Jordan Ward was nowhere to be found. Despite the massive success of ‘FORWARD’ and not being able to capitalize on it, he’s finally returned. Not only did he return, but he rightfully returned to peak form. Seemingly, his break has put a new battery in his back and rejuvenated his creativity.
Elmiene – ‘Heat The Streets’ (Mixtape)
After putting the world on notice at the BET Awards, Elmiene has arrived with a fresh mixtape. There is no doubt that he could be at the forefront of bringing real R&B back. Simply put, he’s in a league of his own vocally, all while only being 24 years old.
Rapper’s Delight
Jermaine Dupri – ‘Magic City’
As opposed to other cities, strip clubs make up the foundation of Atlanta’s culture. Legendary producer, Jermaine Dupri put that in full perspective for the world to see in his new documentary/accompanying soundtrack. In essence, he called up some of ATL’s iconic stars including a posthumous verse from the late-great Rich Homie Quan. For this reason, this soundtrack does an exemplary job of showing how the music is what makes Magic City magical.
Connie Diiamomd – ‘Underdog Szn 2’ (Album)
When given the opportunity and the talent is there, I’m always down to support a female rapper. In fact, Connie Diiamond and her newly released album check all the boxes. Her mic skills are so fierce, that they are worthy enough to be someone from an older era. Her music surely wouldn’t hit the same if she didn’t consistently bring out that unfiltered energy.
Tony Shhnow – ‘Self Portrait’ (Album)
Once again, ATL’s Tony Shhnow is back to save trap music. Executively produced by Mike & Keys, their production lays the groundwork for a trap masterpiece. If there ever was any doubt that he was falling off, he painted a perfect picture with his effortless wordplay.
We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
