New Music Friday: The best new music, featuring Cardi B, Destroy Lonely, Jaden, and more

The best new music from the week of September 19th!

It’s New Music Friday! Nevertheless, this N.M.F. was certainly one that we will never forget. In fact, we got to see some old faces make their gracious return to music and attempt to rejuvenate their career. This week’s edition features standout releases from Cardi B, Destroy Lonely, Jaden, and many more. Read on to find the latest tracks and albums that dropped this week.

New Music Friday Picks

Cardi B – ‘Am I The Drama?’ (Album)

With a damn-near decade wait, all the odds were stacked against Cardi B’s sophomore album. Obviously, it was never going to live up to the hype of her debut, but it’s still a good listen. The project truly begins to peak near the halfway mark, once she is able to fully sbly to lean into her unapologetic, raw self. It’s not bad by any stretch, but it just doesn’t bring anything new to the table.

Destroy Lonely – ‘</3^3’ (Album)

As crazy as it sounds, bullying is an effective way of motivation, and Destroy Lonely is the perfect example of this. After dropping an album that received an underwhelming reception, he went back to the drawing board. This time around, he made something that draws on his strengths, while also introducing interesting new sounds vocally. For that reason, his stock as an artist is at an all-time high.

Jaden – “RED CLOAKS” ft Rich The Kid

After a decade apart, Jaden & Rich The Kid are back making music together. However, with them being drastically older and farther in their careers, it makes sense that they don’t have the same hunger as before. With that being said, I’m still excited for Jaden’s future & upcoming album, as I hope he could return to his old self.

Hunxho – ‘For Her 2’ (Album)

Alongside artists like YTB Fatt, Hunxho has positioned himself at the forefront of rappers shamelessly pandering towards women. As the album title suggests, that’s exactly what you can expect from this project with no surprises. With cuffing season being around the corner, this is certainly the type of music that best suits the colder weather.

R&B Corner

Thundercat – “Children of the Baked Potato” ft Remi Wolf

Surely, with it being a five-year gap for Thundercat, his new music is bound to leave a lasting impression. For him to have such subpar lyrics, it is easily forgiven once his majestic vocals begin. Stylistically, this track pushes the boundaries of jazz fusion in a modern way.

Amber Mark – “Too Much”

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Amber Mark is set to be one of the next R&B stars. Her new single takes listeners through a time machine to the golden days of the early 2000s. Even better, she makes sure to give one of Usher’s classics its proper justice with her interpolation.

Reggie Becton – “The Last Great American Summer

For so many people to say R&B is currently in a weird place, it could be easily disproven with rising stars like Reggie Becton. His new release capitalizes on some fresh sounds built around genuine heartfelt emotion. To sweeten the deal, he has a feature from D Smoke that blends perfectly with Reggie’s soft vocals.

Kaash Paige – “GOD SAVE ME”

After breaking free from her Def Jam, Kaash Paige is free and back to making music. To celebrate her newfound freedom, she’s released a new track titled “GOD SAVE ME.” This track blends rich cinematic production with themes of resilience and moving on from bad situations.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
