The best new music from September 5th!
It’s New Music Friday! September has finally arrived after such a dreadful summer season. For some reason, music sounds a whole lot better in the fall and we are already off to such a promising start. This week’s edition of NMF features standout releases from Latto/Ice Spice, Justin Bieber, Veeze, and more. Read on to find the latest tracks and albums that dropped this week.
New Music Friday Picks
Latto – “Gyatt” ft Ice Spice
There’s nothing better than seeing two artists putting their beef aside to make music and squash their beef. Even though this isn’t a groundbreaking song, it shows how these two are stronger together than at odds. If only this track could have been released in the summer, then Latto could’ve had a potential song of the summer.
Justin Bieber – ‘SWAG II’ (Album)
Surely, nobody could’ve predicted that a megastar like Justin Bieber would drop two albums this year. In my eyes, this is some of his best work in a while because it’s obvious he’s making music for himself. However, don’t let the lengthy track list scare you away. There are certainly a lot of gems such as “POPPIN MY SH*T” that surprisingly features Hurricane Chris.
Veeze – “L.O.A.T.”
It’s been far too long since Detroit’s Veeze dropped and that time has finally come. His newest single puts into perspective how much Detroit rap has evolved over the past couple of years. Much of that can be attributed to Veeze, as he is able to rap comfortably at his own pace. Not only does his unique style shine, but so does his creative wordplay, making this well worth the wait.
Rapper’s Delight
Don Toliver – “Tiramisu”
Undoubtedly, the level of consistency from Don in 2025, is what every artist should aspire for. Based on his second single of the year, it feels like he’s gearing up to drop his best album yet. His ability to easily churn out hooks still shows no sign of slowing down.
Ben Reilly – ‘Don’t Lose The Plot’ (EP)
It’s amazing how lyrical rap is seemingly making a comeback, even in a festive city like Atlanta. Gearing up for his upcoming album this ATL-based lyricist gave listeners a nice preview of what’s to come. The fact that Ben believably sounds like he’s from both NY & ATL truly puts him in a lane of his own.
Shaddi G – “Lieutenant Wop”
In the case of NJ, there seems to be a bunch of new talent coming out without even counting the Jersey drill artists. Shaddi G has already begun to make a name for himself with his distinct yet raw sound. “Lieutenant Wop” is the perfect introduction for new listeners to fully understand his untapped potential.
R&B Corner
Queen Naija – “rain”
When I mentioned fall is here, this is quite literally the music I was referring to. Queen Naija is back with her first single of 2025, and she knows how to make her presence felt. Sonically, she is being very strategic about ushering in a whole new era.
Miguel – “New Martyrs (Ride 4 U)”
Noticeably, there is a recurring theme about artists taking breaks, but Miguel takes the cake with his 8-year break. His long-awaited album is around the corner and he is still the same artist we know and love. In a way, his return puts an emphasis on his strong influence among current R&B stars like Leon Thomas and Brent Faiyaz.
We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
