Pootie hails from Hoboken, New Jersey. He pulls musical inspiration from a deep range of artists including The Isley Brothers, The Alchemist, Prince, and many more. Nothing Neue is a Brooklyn native who pulls musical inspiration from various people. Some include J Dilla, Flying Lotus, AFTA-1, Madlib, DJ Premier and A Tribe Called Quest. Moreover, Pootie pulls his artist name from a childhood nickname that he evolved into an acronym. Meaning Progressively, Overcoming, Obstacles, Through, Instrumental, Enlightenment.
However, Pootie describes his sound as a product of the times and environment. He shares, “As a producer, I love finding unique samples and breathing new life into them by chopping them up in a tasteful way. While layering them with drums and other samples from other genres and times. As a rapper, I’d describe my sound as modern, underground & constantly growing.”
Moreover, Neue’s production style is inspired by late-90’s and early 2000’s Hip Hop and R&B. He tends to layer vintage synthesizers and instruments with the latest production techniques to hone in on a sound that exists in its own space. Furthermore, on January 24th, the producer-rapper duo shared a hazy and comedic music video for “Rinse and Repeat”
Pootie & Neue on the visual inspiration
The single and visuals was inspired by 1970s soul, blaxploitation movies and the combination of the duo’s respective sounds and influences. Neue detailed his inspiration behind the production. “I was looking for a way to score a background that fits Pootie’s distinctive voice and abstract rhyme style and this was the best way to complement those elements”.
Furthermore, the entertaining music video sees Pootie training a new employee at his fictional job, the car wash. Throughout the shift, the rapper opts to not work ultimately getting caught by his boss leading to his firing. Moreover, the warm tone of the music video matches seamlessly with the energy of the song. Pootie weaves between the jazz-sampled instrumental with clever bars and a relaxed flow.
In addition, the rapper shares that “Rinse and Repeat” is inspired by the working class. He went on to say, “This project is about growth, the want to succeed, and knowing where we are isn’t where we’ll always be.” Moreover, Pootie is currently working on finalizing a self-produced body of work and is expected to drop this summer.

However, Nothing Neue is currently focussed on a pop-leaning project with his partner Chenoa Tarin. The producer also has some more instrumental music on the way under Alpha Pup Records alongside remixes and loosies. The producer shared “Me and Pootie are already thinking of different ways to build on the world of ‘Rinse and Repeat.'” The New Jersey rapper leaves us with a passionate message detailing what he wants fans to take away from his music.
“I just hope the level of f**ks given shines through in the product, I hope they can tell how much elbow grease nothing neue and I put into this,” he says. Moreover, he says that there’s power in creatives creating art. “And if they’re creatives I want them to know there’s power in art, power in music, and power in believing in and loving ourselves.”
