Liyah’s debut single “Always There” is officially out on all platforms.
Up-and-coming Canadian artist Aaliyah, better known by her stage name Liyah, just dropped off her vibrant debut single “Always There.” The love ballad comes just a day after Valentine’s Day, serving as a testament to the theme of love and relationships that’s incorporated to the song.
The almost three-minute song tells a very intimate and detailed story of a hectic relationship, where she presumes and wonders if her significant other “even cares.” The track is a beautiful account of unrequited love, wanting something different, and the unfairness of being in a one-way relationship.
In a recent interview with Remixd Magazine, Liyah talks about growing up surrounded by R&B, music influences, and what’s next for her in 2021.
When asked about her upbringing, Liyah said that her parents are the ones who introduced her to “real R&B” music, from musicians like Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, Musiq Soulchild, Alicia Keys, India.Arie, and much more.
“My parents educated and nurtured my love and interest for music,” Liyah said. “At age 14, I grew closer to God and closer to the church community and found another side of music. Music that I could feel in my heart, music that I can explore and express emotion.”
Growing up, Liyah had always been around music and saw it has a “healing” force.
“One reason that I am passionate about music is because I believe that music can heal,” Liyah said. “There are so many emotions that I get from listening to music and sometimes emotions that I never knew I had. Music sometimes answers my questions about how I feel about myself or somebody else.”
Her new single “Always There,” which marks the first in her career, is a song about realizing your worth as an individual and wanting to be valued in your relationship.
“It’s a feel good record that will have you feeling confident and uplifted,” Liyah said of the single.
With a sound that can be described as “sweet, refreshing, and having the best of both worlds,” Liyah is truly a versatile R&B artist with a promising future.
