Pusha T SZN is upon us and he’s back in Grim Reaper mode! The Virginia rapper returns with his new single produced by legendary producers 88-Keys and ‘Ye, “Diet Coke”. While most veterans decline over time, Pusha’s an older rapper that’s only getting better in a young man’s game. His signature cocaine bars and keen ear for dark, regally grandeur production puts himself class of its own. Since his magnum opus DAYTONA dropped in 2018, anticipation for a follow-up has blown through the roof. Not only is his forthcoming presumed to top the latter sonically, his rumored producer collaborations are of legendary caliber.
His latest offering boosts an intoxicating instrumental that sounds like it’s skiing down a spiral staircase of piano keys. Perfect for the pro-powder production persona that legendary producer 88-Keys had in mind when he made it eighteen years ago. Pusha T gets a whiff of what 88 and ‘Ye’s cooking up, and his flow becomes the spark that ignites the stovetop fire. His lyrics glamorize the polished side of narcotics filled with Lamborghani’s and powder white tracksuits.
“The flow’s untouched, the drums is tucked,
Drive Cullinan when roads get rough,
Snow’s a must, the nose adjust,
Young Gs like we Hov and Puff”
A album concept hasn’t been explained but he’s offered fans the possibility of the content being less “drug related”. It sounds hard in theory for Push but most of his songs balance subject matter and subjects that do matter.
As a new Pusha T album is set to release, he’s already thrown his hat in for having “album of the year“. After dropping a strong lead single like “Diet Coke” to set the album’s tone, it’s hard to argue otherwise. The track’s a strong effort to keep fans on the edge of their seats until the album drops.
