XBrodie is an artist to keep a lookout for. The Raleigh, NC based artist is making a name for himself through his music. The talented artist’s, unique and enticing sound can be heard in his songs such as “FaceTime”, “Smile”, and most recently, “Love Tonight”. “I feel like my sound is human, and with being human we deal with so many different versions of ourselves depending on the moment”, he tells RemixdMag.
XBrodie’s passion in making music stems from a place where he can be himself unapologetically. “I’m passionate about music because it gives me an outlet to be myself completely. I truly get to be whatever version of myself I want without fear of judgment. Music also gives me the opportunity to connect with people, and help them feel.” That passion has allowed the artist to showcase his vulnerability and complexity in a creative way.
In his new single, “Love Tonight”, XBrodie does a great job at exuding that feel good energy that will make listeners want to bop and vibe to.
As for what the artist has coming up, the visuals to “Love Tonight” is set to release in October just in time for the spooky season of Halloween, as well as a new album Two Sides of the Same Heart. Keep reading below to learn more about XBrodie and what he has in store next.
What city are you from/ Where are you based now?
I’m from Kenansville, North Carolina. Currently based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?
My artist name is XBrodie, based on my real name Xavier Brodie. I gave myself that name because I was a huge fan of J.Cole back in high school. He was like a NC hero, and I wanted to be the next hero. I’d often refer to myself as Kovu, since he was Simba. You’d have to understand Lion King to get that lol.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
I feel like my sound is human, and with being human we deal with so many different versions of ourselves depending on the moment. This is why my logo is a broken heart, it stands for two sides of the same heart. Most of my music is vulnerable, full of hidden meaning and stories like a book. It’s best to listen to me when you’re alone in a quiet space, like driving around during a late night.
What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
I’m passionate about music because it gives me an outlet to be myself completely. I truly get to be whatever version of myself I want without fear of judgment. Music also gives me the opportunity to connect with people, and help them feel. I’m inspired by my experiences and the experiences of those around me.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
I would say Frank Ocean is my biggest inspiration even though our music sounds nothing alike. I’m a huge fan of his ability to tell a story. I try to bring that complexity to my style of music. All of my musically talented friends influence me as well. They are really good at what they do, so it keeps me on my game.
Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?
Currently I’m pushing a fun song called “Love Tonight”. We just shot a music video themed like the movie “The Mask” for it. Yes I was dressed in a big yellow suit for this production. Can’t wait for everyone to see it in October.
Date that this project dropped or is set to drop?
The song “Love Tonight” is available on all streaming platforms. The music video for the song will be released early October. Since I’m dressed up, it will match the halloween vibe for the month.
What is this project about in your own words?
This music video is about showing the world a good black time. My videos purposely give black women of all shades and looks roles that exceed the typical “video vixen”. Nothing wrong with vixens, but I believe black women can be more than just props in a video. I also try not to make it seem like the women are below me, we are equal, so we are all having a good time. Everyone looks good in this video, and it’s really like the black version of “The Mask”. You just have to see it. My videographer is a black woman named Sidney “Sid the Great” Wadsworth. She shot the entire music video on roller skates, crazy.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.
I’m working on an album titled “Two Sides of the Same Heart”. This album will drop in November.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from this project?
I hope fans get a chance to understand and relate to me. I hope other men are able to see how I vent and understand that it is okay to be vulnerable. This project speaks on love, being a black person in America, faith, doubt, happiness, pain, etc.
