Robby Adams (@robbyadamsiv) isn’t just making music, he’s crafting a sonic experience that spans decades and genres. With a sound rooted in the eclectic fusion of ‘70s rock ‘n’ roll, Bossa Nova, funk, fusion, and R&B, Adams is a self-taught musician who thrives on curiosity and experimentation. His approach, influenced by legends like Lenny Kravitz, Prince, and David Bowie, has led him to create a distinctive style that feels both nostalgic and innovative.
“I developed a passion for music early on,” Adams says to Remixd Magazine. “I was always branching out, discovering artists and genres I’d never heard before. That curiosity shaped my sound.”
As an artist who prefers to learn by doing, Adams’ journey has been defined by trial and error. Though he took brief lessons in tenor saxophone and piano, he found his most significant growth came through independent exploration and collaborations with fellow musicians. Thus, moving to Paris four years ago was a transformative moment. Immersing him in a pool of talent that reshaped his artistic vision.
His recording process mirrors his ability to blend classic and modern elements. “I record both digitally and with analog,” he laughs. Robby Adams knows the balance between honoring the past and pushing sonic boundaries. That philosophy extends to his vision for rock’s evolution. Thus, keeping the genre’s legacy alive while infusing it with fresh influences and bold instrumentation. “Epic guitar solos are a must,” he says. “I want to blend the genres I love and create my own style of rock.”
When it comes to songwriting, Adams describes his process as instinctive. “I take a little bit from everything. I love a good rhythm section. Funk rhythms, jazz sax, and a strong bassline. I’ll mess around on my keyboard or program a drum beat, and it all flows from there.” Lyrically, his inspiration comes from poetry. Moreover, often repurposing lines he’s written long before they find their way into a song.
Now, with new music on the horizon, Adams is embracing the journey. “I procrastinated releasing music for so long, trying to make everything perfect. But now, I’m just putting it out there.” With a few more singles on the way and a record in the works, he’s ready for listeners to dive into his evolving sound.
“I want people to hear my music and think, ‘This guy’s a risk taker.’”
