His most recent album ‘Reverend’ is a project that speaks volume as far as versatility goes. With a smooth delivery and interesting storyline, Saint gets creative and out of the box with his lyrics and wordplay. What city are you from/ Where are you based now?
I’m from Los Angeles, California; Mid City LA to be exact. I grew up right off Pico, less than half a mile from ‘Scoes. LA is all I know, I love my city.
What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?
I am Saint Frm LA. When I began with music I went by JP The Goat, that was back in High School. At school everybody called me JP, which comes from my name being Jordan. In the first song I ever recorded I said, “Jordan is the name, I’m the G.O.A.T, now I’m out” which lead to the artist name “JP The Goat.” As I progressed with music, I grew different from who I was when I started and felt that a name change was necessary as a part of my artist evolution. The goal is to take what is now “Saint Frm LA” and become a big enough artist to one day just be “Saint.”
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
My sound is one that embodies the best of several generations. I was born in 2000, but my heart is with the 90s. From RnB to Hip Hop, I appreciate the creation through all the times. But of course, I’m well versed in the artists of today. When I’m not listening to myself, I mainly listen to the familiar names of Kendrick, Drizzy, and Cole as far as rap. My R&B list could go on forever but to keep it short I’ll mention Breezy, Brent, Anderson Paak and Usher. Hov, Em, Wayne, and Nas get heavy airplay from the kid too.
What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
Music has always been a part of who I am. I grew up in church and my whole family on my mother’s side is musically inclined in one way or another. My pops is up on game too, he put me on more than I can remember. I remember he had this big CD case full of discs in the car (something that is now just our digital music library). It’s gotten to the point for me that I can’t see myself doing anything but music, it’s on my mind 25/8, and not just music in itself but the business of the industry as well. My days are spent reading, or watching videos in relation to the entertainment industry.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
As I was saying before, my musical taste is all over the place. One day I’ll be bumping Shalamar, the next it’ll be Future, then blackbear. Neighborhood Nip gon’ forever get runtime from me too, RIP.
Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?
I’m currently in a state of finishing up and promoting my up and coming project ‘Pimps Get Lonely Too.’ I’m usually working on multiple projects at once so this one has songs dating all the way back in 2019. As I’ve always felt about my newer works, this is what I believe to be my best project to date. In May 2021, I dropped my last LP, titled Reverend. I’d been working on PGLT and Reverend simultaneously and knew they would play hand in hand with each other when it was all said and done.
Date that this project dropped or is set to drop?
Pimps Get Lonely Too is set to drop in January, currently aimed for the week of my 22nd Birthday, January 6th.
What is this project about in your own words?
My heart and mind are intertwined with my music. As a person, I’m very observant and offer a helping hand in any area I think could use one. So through my artistry, I try to speak on my observations of the world, our generation, and myself. I always want to educate my peers but also give them the hits they enjoy and deserve to listen too. As I’ve progressed, I’ve found a better balance between the conscious and the turn up. With Reverend, I wanted to exemplify the thoroughness of my thoughts and showcase that I’m a rapper who can bar with the best. Pimps Get Lonely Too, is meant to be a project for the radio, and for listeners to enjoy in any situation. But still it has a concept and meaning, it’s about life as a young adult, dealing with the pressure of the world, and typical relationship issues that we all experience at some point. There are a couple of tracks where I open up about myself, my experiences with life and love.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.
Pimps Get Lonely Too. Everybody should be on the lookout, I’m going to be a big problem in the industry and it’ll be known to all once this project releases. Believe that.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from this project?
I really hope this project gives fans and new listeners and clearer look on who I am and what I plan to bring to the music world. It was a really fun project for me because I was able to just create and not worry too much about depth and conceptuality.. that was at the beginning, as I finish up this project I’m starting to dig a little deeper just to close it off and feel comfortable with what I’m putting out in the world.
