Spotlight: Rising artist LovelyOcean talks about her new album ‘Better Than Ever’

LovelyOcean
LovelyOcean is making more than just waves in the music industry.

LovelyOcean is putting out music that reflects some of her best work to-date. You can describe it as “better than ever.” The now Los Angeles native pours out her past experiences within her new album Better Than Ever which released earlier this month. Her lyricism is reminiscent of old school music with a modern day twist. LovelyOcean recently did an interview with Remixd Magazine to describe her creative process behind her brand new project.

LovelyOcean’s love for music

LovelyOcean’s musical journey essentially came about though her love for music. “Being able to make my own music and it make it sound the way I want, inspires me the most,” she said. Growing up in Monrovia, California, she became fascinated with music and overcame her shyness. “My inner child is jumping for joy because I always wanted to make music back then, but I was so shy. I’m truly living my dreams,” she said. Some of her musical influences include Rapsody, Lauryn Hill, Childish Gambino, Earth, Wind and Fire and The Isley Brothers. This is evident within her soulful style of lyricism. “I would describe my sound as a combination of an old school vibe with a new school flavor with Lyricism and flow that is reminiscent of east coast rap and hip hop from the 90s, but also changing it up to appeal to current trends” she said.

Better Than Ever

Moreover, LovelyOcean utilizes transparency and relatability to her latest 10-song LP, Better Than Ever. In the project, she reflects on her feelings following a past relationship that lead her journey of rediscovery. “It was inspired by my recent divorce and wanting to start over and rediscover myself,” she said. Her creative process for putting the album together is intentional during this release. Additionally, she reflects on her mental health. “The project starts off pretty dark with ‘Midnight’ because that’s where my mental health was at the time. I really just wanted to be left alone to my own devices. It goes from me feeling hopeless and depressed, having a revelation in the middle with ‘Too Close for Comfort’ and being happy and invigorated by the end with ‘Soft’ and ‘Love,’” she said.

Things are now looking up for LovelyOcean. ”I’m truly feeling better than I ever have in years and this album is the evidence,”she said.  She is hoping to leave her best impression with her fans with this project. I hope that my fans can really feel how passionate I am about this project and the amount of care,” she said. I hope new fans to fall in love with the sound and for old fans to respect the growth and evolution,” she adds. To keep up with her musical journey, you can follow her on her social media listed below.
