Over the past few years, it has become crystal clear that no one in the music industry is safe from the wrath of Nicki Minaj. Her newest beef seems to be the most unexpected one yet, as she finds herself at odds with beloved singer/songwriter SZA. Unlike most beefs that are handled in person, this one unfolded in front of everyone via social media.
After days of slandering Jay Z and his company Roc Nation, Nicki decided to redirect her energy elsewhere. Out of nowhere, she then began to virtually attack SZA, which is certainly an event that no one saw coming. Unbeknownst to the general public, this is something that is premeditated and has been brewing behind the scenes for a while.
Beef Breakdown
According to TDE’s president and SZA’s former manager, Punch, this ordeal dates all the way back to 2020. Essentially, Nicki had reached out to obtain an SZA feature and got politely turned away due to her being busy. From that moment on, it was no longer just business, and it became a personal issue.
Fast forward to 2025, and it’s very apparent that Nicki never forgave SZA for turning her feature request down. When Nicki began to virtually attack Punch via X, it was SZA who had Punch’s back and responded on his behalf. This small decision led to a major chain of events and resulted in one of Nicki’s longest social media rants.
Calling someone a clown while drawing freckles on your face & telling the magazine they were real. 😩🤥🤥🤥🤡 Pretending that was your hair. Wait. Who REALLY the 🤡???? Conclusion
One can hope that this is the end of their beef and that it doesn’t go any further. Reminiscent of the recent rap beef with Drake & Kendrick, there doesn’t need to be any more low blows. Not only is it out of pocket, but it’s counterproductive for everyone involved, including the fans. The last thing that we need is a full-blown civil war with TDE versus Young Money.
Even if they never end up on speaking terms again, it’s important to the culture that these two heavyweights squash their issues. As corny as it sounds, they are stronger together than apart.
