The 2022 BBMAs did not disappoint

BBMAs

The stars were aligned for a memorable night as the 2022 BBMAs took place Sunday evening. Being one of music’s most reputable events, the Billboard Music Awards one that’s welcomed by fans and artists alike. Every year comes with its own surprises and needless to say, this year’s edition is no different. The gala affair was hosted and executive produced by Sean “Love” Combs, which came with its own pros and cons. His experience and expertise plays an instrumental role in how good of a turnout the production was.

It’s a big accomplishment for Diddy, which is something he didn’t let anyone forget in moments throughout the show. Not to say that some of his moments weren’t enjoyable, but it didn’t naturally flow with the show. The energy swayed at times but it was never lost with the memorable performances from throughout the evening.

Megan Thee Stallion stole the show as she gave a fierce performance for “Sweetest Pie” and Plan B”, following her Top Rap Female Artist win. Silk Sonic blessed the stage with a standout rendition of their Las Vegas residency shows. The duo also brought home Top R&B tour for the same Park MGM residency that inspired their BBMA musical appearance. Jack Harlow also came out to perform “First Class”, while Nigerian star delivered a monstrous performance for his new single “Last Last”. But possibly the most interesting performance came from Travi$ Scott, who performed “Mafia” and “Lost Forever”, marking his first televised performance since the Astroworld tragedy.

The MVP of the night is none other than buzzing newcomer Olivia Rodrigo, who led the pack with 7 BBMA awards. Trailing right behind was ‘Ye, who came away with six awards. Majority of his success was in dominating the Christian and Gospel categories with his Donda album. The night’s shining moment came when “the queen of hip-hop soul” Mary J. Blidge received her Icon Award. As she thanked fans for being with her along her journey to achieving greatness and personal growth, she received a standing ovation.

The only definite bust of the night is The Weeknd, whom only received one award after being nominated for seventeen.
