Broccoli City Festival is a 2-day Hip-Hop, and R&B Festival based in Washington, D.C. Celebrating its 10th year anniversary, Broccoli City has attracted some of the biggest names in music Including headliners like Ari Lennox and Summer Walker. The Broccoli City Festival owner, Brandon McEachern leads the festival in hopes to uplift black culture and communities. This year, the festival kicked off on Mother’s Day and Black Change weekend with acts such as DMV Natives Wale, Rico Nasty, Alex Vaughn, also including Masego, Tems, Wizkid, Gunna, 21 Savage, Lil Durk and more. The festival had various memorable moments, and RemixdMag was in attendance to cover it all. Here are our top 5 best moments at Broccoli City Festival.

Wale and friends paid homage to the DMV

DMV Native, and frequent performer at Broccoli City Festival Wale teared down the Broccoli City stage on Saturday May 7th. Accompanied by familiar faces and local talent such as, Vish, Big Flock, Lil Mill, and Light Show. Wale who is usually associated for opening up doors for many DC rappers made sure to shed light on local artists during the festival. Wale also brought Polo g out for a surprise appearance. His performance was nostalgic and heartwarming as the whole stage was full of DMV native’s showing love for each other. 

Lil Durk ran into the crowd during his performance

Lil Durk’s set was filled with energy, the Chicago born rapper performed at Broccoli City Festival on Saturday May 8 and rocked the stage. Accompanied by OTF rapper Doodie Lo and C3. Lil Durk while going over his set time decided to get off stage and interact with the crowd. With Chicago anthem “Faneto” playing in the background Lil Durk took pictures with the crowd, Fans were going crazy, and some got to even shake his hand.

Summer Walker brought out special guest Rubi Rose

LVRN’s, Summer Walker closed out the festival on Sunday May 8. With her set being an hour long she played her most popular songs like, “Girls need love” and “Playing games” from her Grammy award winning Album Over It. Toward the end of her performance Summer brought out Atlanta native Rubi Rose as the surprise guest. She performed her hit single “Big Mouth” 

By captivating the crowd with undeniable energy, it was a great way to end the festival out. 

TEMS performed for her first time in D.C.

Performing in D.C for the first time, Nigerian singer TEMS dominated the stage with her unique vocals and interactive stage presence. Her performance was truly memorable as she started her set out with the #1 song on billboard “Wait for U” by Future ft. Drake. Later she joined Wizkid on stage to perform their hit single “Essence”

Broccoli City Festival was Alex Vaughn’s first festival performance 

The newest name in R&B is Alex Vaughn. The Maryland native performed at her first festival ever and it was in her home city. She set the tone by opening on the second day of the festival. With her powerful vocals and soulful sound, Alex made her first festival performance one to remember.
