Meek Mill says him and Drake are closer than ever after beef was squashed

Meek Mill and Drake have mended their friendship after setting aside their differences. In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation, Meek Mill shared that he and Drake now share a close bond. The feud ended a couple years ago, and since then, the two have built their bond. Meek explained in the interview that him and Drake can now be honest with each other in ways they never were before. He mentioned, “If he thinks my song is corny, he could tell me that. We never was at a space like that before the beef … Me and Drake [talk] to each other a lot … We got that honesty where we can leave it on the table, and we can walk away, and feel good about that. And we ain’t have that before the beef.”

During one of Drake’s “It’s All A Blur Tour” stops in Philly, Drake took a moment to reflect on his 2015 rap feud with Meek Mill and said, “You see who I walked out here with, right?…”

He continues, “It means the most to me that I can come back to this city and show the growth as two men. That we can come here tonight and we can represent for motherf**kin’ Philadelphia together. That’s what this s**t is about, So I appreciate Meek walking me to the stage tonight. Philly, I appreciate you embracing me with open arms one more time.”

For those who don’t remember, let’s run it back. Let’s not forget, there wasn’t always tension with the two artists as they collaborated on a track in 2012 “Amen”.

When did the conflict begin?

In the summer of 2015, Meek Mill accused Drake of using a ghostwriter after their “R.I.C.O.” collaboration. Mill was on a late night Twitter rant where he essentially dissed Drake and accused him of not being able to write his own raps. This fueled the beef between the two, and sparked a series of events that would go down as one of the biggest hip-hop stories of that year. Drake responded to Meek’s diss with “Charged Up” and “Back to Back,” leaving fans eagerly anticipating Meek’s comeback. However, his release, “Wanna Know,” reportedly left fans disappointed.

Meek Mill had initially voiced his frustration, claiming that he and Drake were not on the same level due to Drake’s use of a ghostwriter. Quentin Miller, was alleged to have penned Drake’s verse on “R.I.C.O.” This led to the start of a four year back and forth rivalry.

Various people got involved in the feud, including Quentin Miller, Drake’s producer Noah 40, Canadian City Councillor Norm Kelly, Funkmaster Flex, OG Maco, Boi-1da, and Safaree.

Drake addressed the accusations in his diss track “Charged Up,” avoiding direct mention of Meek but leaving no doubt about the target. He continued to criticize Meek with “Back to Back,” which became widely known.

Meek Mill eventually responded with “Wanna Know,” but it didn’t live up to public expectations. Meek responded to Drake’s jabs with defiant freestyles at his shows, refusing to let the OVO rapper’s taunts go unanswered. Then another round of diss tracks dropped ‘Summer Sixteen’ by Drake and ‘War Pain’ by Meek Mill.

Drake and Meek call a truce

However, in September of 2018 Drake brought Meek Mill on his tour. They performed Meek’s hit song “Dreams and Nightmares” and publicity squashed their beef. In an interview on Big Boy TV, Meek said, “it was exciting, me and him actually have been in contact for probably about a year before. He had a tour going, had it been my tour I would have tried to plan it the same way.”

After it was all said and done, Meek even freestyleed on “Back to Back” on Hot 97. Now that the feud seems to be over and the two seem to be closer than ever before, who knows the new music that these two music geniuses might create.
