Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist drop off highly-anticipated ‘Voir Dire’

Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist

After its original release on August 25th on NFT platform, Gala Music, Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist officially provides listeners full access to Voir Dire on all streaming platforms Friday (Oct. 6th). Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist are no strangers to teaming up with one another as the nearly 30 minute, 11-track offering showcases the undeniable musical chemistry between the longtime friends and collaborators. With Sweatshirt’s intricate yet gifted penmanship and The Alchemist’s original yet impressive production, this surely is a project to add to your rotation.

Alongside the release of the project, Sweatshirt also released the music video to the second track, “Vin Skully.” The video shows an introspective Sweatshirt striving to keep it pushing and move forward.

Voir Dire is a nod to his Earl Sweatshirt’s mother’s professional career as UCLA’s professor of civil rights and civil liberties. The meaning behind the term is “to speak the truth,” and like he always does, Earl Sweatshirt did just that. Sweatshirt is known for his introspective, clever, and unique style of storytelling, and he does so in such a profound and poetic way. Voir Dire invites listeners into Earl Sweatshirt’s journey with fatherhood, dealing with the loss of his father, and his own mythology with songs such as, “Sentry” featuring rapper/ songwriter, Mike, “The Caliphate” featuring his longtime Los Angeles comrade, Vince Staples, and closer song “Free the Ruler”.

Voir Dire comes shortly after the prominent MC recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of his debut album, Doris. Fans can hear how much the rapper has truly evolved from the inexperienced yet ahead of his time 18-year-old artist to the now mature and sure of himself, nearly 30-year-old artist.
