It’s no news that Hip Hop has morphed into a melody-compounded sport where artists and producers are curating anthems that are finding a home on Billboard’s Hot 100 more consistently than ever.
The hottest hip hop acts today all have common ground in that melodies are the gearing force towards which the commercially successful acts in the genre are thriving upon.
From Lil Baby, Young Thug, Future, Drake, Roddy Ricch, Travis Scott, Lil Durk and even Lil Uzi Vert, these are some of the most influential artists in the latter 2010’s era of Hip Hop scoring high placements on the charts, filling arenas, and headlining festivals.
With that said, Hip Hop is now placed as the most streamed genre globally, and artists such as Eightysixmajor who are special and witty in their cadences, segways, lyricism, and song-writing knack will be here for a long time and leading the neo generation of hip hop and music.
So where exactly does Eightysixmajor whose most recent single “Fell From” is the perfect snapshot of what contemporary music is all about – a strong performance, easy and memorable lyrics, and an immersive melody – get his mojo and inspiration from?
“Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Pharrell and Adele” he tells Remixd Mag, “I would describe my sound as unique. It’s authentically me and what I’m good at – a culmination of what I like to listen to and what I enjoy creating. If you had to put me into a genre, I’d say Alternative rap, I guess. Whatever it is I make sure it sounds HARD to me, my homies and my city. I’m content with that” He says of his type of music.
This sort of assertiveness and non-conformity to traditional music genres, but still keeping it hip, innovative and urban is what has steered artists of this generation to be more liberated and ground-breaking as artists. They do not remain boxed, they question everything, and remain eager to learn and push themselves. Already from Major’s favorite artists, you can assess he is lyrical (Lil Wayne), croony (Kid Cudi),musical (Pharrell), and has a song-writing penchant (Adele).
As critics remain stagnant at the shortcomings of this generation’s music, Eightysixmajor is candid about his approach and his zeal for the arts hence why he will endure the hardships that come with being a skyward artist.
I’m passionate about music and I feel like music is passionate about me. Regardless of how big I get or where it takes me, I genuinely enjoy just making music and being in the studio and being creative. It’s the best feeling in the world. The results financially don’t matter to me as long as I love what I just made” Major invigorates.
s we head towards the tail-end of the year, Major is already conjuring up his new releases and fans can begin to rub their hands in expectancy of nothing short of greatness.
“Next for me is to keep perfecting my sound and doing more collaborations with artists up and coming as well as established ones,” he says. “I hope fans can take away some hope from my music. I hope it’s a Monday and getting in your car you say to yourself, ‘today is going to be a great day.’ Then you turn on some Eightysixmajor and the sounds just confirm it. Today is going to be a great day.”
