Las Vegas artist YSK opens up on ‘Therapy’ and the journey behind his rise

YSK
Get to know YSK, an artist, producer, and songwriter from Las Vegas.

Rising out of Las Vegas, YSK is carving out a lane that feels both deeply personal and sonically expansive. As a multi-talented artist, producer, and songwriter, he’s part of a new wave of creatives who aren’t interested in staying in one box.

“Music has always been in my veins,” he tells Remixd Magazine, pointing to a family history rooted in the industry. With a mom and dad who also had careers in music, YSK grew up around the business. But he says it wasn’t until 2020 that things became intentional.

“I started learning how to produce,” YSK said. I was already rapping, but I wanted to become a better artist. That’s where the hunger really kicked in.”

That drive shows up in his sound. “It’s a mixture of everything,” he explains. “I’m bringing ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s into today’s trap.” Drawing inspiration from artists like Kanye West and Pharrell Williams on the production side, and lyricists like Jay-Z, Nas, and André 3000, YSK is focused on building something layered.

“I’m an all around artist. Performer, writer, producer. The message matters just as much as the music.”

YSK On His New Project Therapy

That message of creativity is front and center on his project Therapy. It’s a body of work rooted in mental health, self love, and self awareness.

“At 13, I tried to commit suicide,” he shares. “Making this album was therapy for me.”

Moreover, he says that the impact of his music has extended beyond him. “People from all over the world have hit me saying they relate to it.”

His momentum is starting to translate into real opportunities. His track “What They Mad For” recently landed in NBA 2K after a chance connection while working a casino front desk job.

“One of the guys told me, ‘You’re the future of music.’ I didn’t hear from them for months, then they came back and made it happen.”

Looking ahead, YSK is thinking global. “I want to be the biggest superstar on the planet,” he says, citing Michael Jackson as the blueprint. With growing support in the UK and plans to expand internationally, he’s moving with intention.

“At the end of the day, it’s about inspiring people,” he says. “That’s always the goal.”
