Kenneth Dabney’s brand “Below Average” brings local artists together on new EP

For Kenneth Dabney, “Below Average” is about more than what you wear.

Kenneth Dabney’s New Orleans clothing brand Below Average is stepping into music with a seven-track EP featuring artists from the city, including Willhebe, 3dNatee, GreatWhite, MaxxP, Jay Jones, and Kidd Kidd.

The Below Average EP extends the brand’s reach beyond apparel and gives its message a new outlet. Founded by Kenneth Dabney, Below Average is built around the idea of pushing forward when people underestimate you. Its phrase, “BIG GOD little me,” reflects the faith and humility behind the brand.

Dabney’s own experiences helped shape that outlook. Growing up in New Orleans, he says people made assumptions about him based on his size, appearance, and skin color. After spending years supporting other people’s ideas, he decided to put that same energy into building something of his own.

Music is one part of that growth. The EP brings several New Orleans artists together under the Below Average name, tying the project back to the city that shaped Dabney and the brand.

Below Average has also stayed connected to its community offline. At its 2026 back-to-school car show and giveaway, the brand distributed around 250 backpacks to children and brought local families, businesses, organizations, and car enthusiasts together.

With the EP, Dabney is giving Below Average another way to represent New Orleans and the people building from there. The clothing may have started the conversation, but music is helping carry the message further.
