LA Wray is back outside with new single “Too Phat”

LA Wray is turning up the heat on her new song.

LA Wray is stepping into a new era, and she’s having some fun with it.

The South Central Los Angeles artist has returned with her latest single, “Too Phat,” a high-energy record that brings her West Coast roots and playful personality to the forefront. Produced by Dav D Beats, the track marks Wray’s first official release following a recent rebrand and some time away from the spotlight.

And if there’s one thing “Too Phat” makes clear, it’s that LA Wray came back ready to move.

The production is bouncy and upbeat, giving Wray plenty of room to lean into her confident delivery and cheeky personality. Instead of the harder, more aggressive sound often associated with Los Angeles rap, she keeps things light and fun. It’s the kind of song made for the function, a night out with the girls or blasting in the car with the windows down. Basically, don’t be surprised if a little twerk happens somewhere along the way.

LA Wray is making it known she’s here to stay

The release also brings Wray back to where her journey started. Raised in LA’s Crenshaw District, she began experimenting with music in high school before pursuing it more seriously in 2018. Early freestyles over recognizable records like Ciara’s “Goodies” and YG’s “Big Bank” helped showcase her personality, but the years since have been about figuring out what she wants her artistry to look and sound like.

That growth eventually led her to evolve from simply Wray to LA Wray, putting her hometown directly into her identity while still giving herself room to experiment beyond one particular West Coast sound.

“Too Phat” feels like the first real taste of that refreshed direction.

With more singles, collaborations and a larger project planned for 2027, LA Wray isn’t necessarily introducing herself this time around. She’s reintroducing herself, and “Too Phat” is a pretty fun way to do it.
