Detroit rapper Lelo (@lelothecorpse) has spent the last year building a sound that feels difficult to pin down. And his latest single “Get Geeked” continues pushing that approach even further. The track leans heavily into Detroit ghetto-tech influences. He blends rap with electronic production rooted in the city’s club scene and dance music history.
While a lot of artists pulling from Detroit right now stay attached to the region’s traditional street rap sound, Lelo’s music feels intentionally internet-driven and genre-fluid. “Get Geeked” taps into fast-paced electronic textures and chaotic energy. However, it doesn’t lose the dark humor and detached delivery that has become central to his style. The record also connects naturally to the broader “New Detroit” identity he’s been building around his music since 2024.
The West Side Detroit artist first started gaining traction through releases like “No Contempt,” which exploded online thanks to its dreamy synths and melodic, half-slurred delivery. The song eventually landed on Billboard’s TikTok charts. This helped establish Lelo as one of the more unpredictable voices emerging from the Midwest. Since then, he’s continued stacking momentum with tracks like “Main Event,” “Pot of Greed,” and “On The Wall” featuring Babyface Ray.
Lelo Stands Out
“Get Geeked” arrives shortly after the release of his EP Mastiff and ahead of his upcoming Mastiff: Pink Tiles Tour. The tour kicks off this summer following appearances at Rolling Loud Orlando and Summerfest. The tour will feature support from Groovepill and continue introducing Lelo’s “New Detroit” movement to larger audiences nationwide.
Part of what makes Lelo stand out is how naturally he blends internet culture, regional influence, and experimental production without sounding overly calculated. His music still carries Detroit DNA, but it also feels shaped by online subcultures, electronic music, and the unpredictability of TikTok-era rap.
With “Get Geeked,” Lelo seems less interested in fitting into Detroit’s existing sound and more focused on reshaping what the next version of it could become.
