New Music Friday: The best new music featuring Isaiah Rashad, Chris Brown, and LUCKI

The best new music from the week of April 24th!

It’s New Music Friday! Besides it being the first day of May, there’s a boatload of new music to be hyped for. This week’s edition of New Music Friday features standout releases from Isaiah Rashad, Chris Brown, LUCKI, and many more.

New Music Friday Picks

Isaiah Rashad – ‘ITS BEEN AWFUL’ (Album)

Upon reflection, we can never question TDE’s delayed release schedule after the work of art, Isaiah Rashad just dropped. As results show, ‘ITS BEEN AWFUL’ feels like something that took years to craft based on the wide range of sounds he included. Simply put, this is bound to remembered as one of his most consistent albums, despite the lack of a true lead single.

Chris Brown – “Fallin” ft Leon Thomas

Over the past decade, I’ve gotten numb to Chris Brown’s repetitive sound and noticeable lack of effort. Until recently, as his latest single has me reconsidering that his upcoming album could be classic-worthy. Clearly, the presence of Leon Thomas on this song left Breezy with no choice but to come correct.

LUCKI – ‘DaysB4Bad*’ (EP)

While it is true, it takes longer than a day to judge a project, LUCKI’s new EP immediately shows its true colors in one sitting. Considering that, he is starting to slowly crossover to the mainstream, it’s kind of expected that his quality has dipped. However, if his upcoming album sounds remotely similar, we will have to have a serious dialogue about his fall-off.

Rapper’s Delight

North West – ‘N0rth4evr’ (EP)

As time goes on, there will always be a never-ending cycle of “nepo babies,” as the most polarizing right now has to be North West. In comparison to her father’s debut project, she’s in a comfortable space of knowing she has an unorthodox sound. Eventually, she will have built a core fanbase willing to embrace her unpredictability and not because of her father.

DaBaby – “Pop Dat Thang (Remix) ft Glorilla, Yung Miami, and YK Niece

Eventually, as a community we are going to have to decide if we are going to keep DaBaby around. For instance, his new remix almost gives false hope that he has a chart-topper on the way. However, that couldn’t be any farther from the truth as he assembled the worst “rag-tag” of women rappers that don’t complement his sound.

PlaqueBoyMax – ‘Crash Dummy’ (EP)

On the surface, PlaqueBoyMax does not seem to take music seriously due to prioritizing streaming. However, every so often he seems to drop a digestible song that makes you question why he doesn’t do this often. In totality, ‘Crash Dummy’ has enough high moments to back you want to come back and invest in his future as an artist.

R&B Corner

Chxrry – “Bottles & Lights” ft Mariab the Scientist

Collectively speaking, Canada has established itself as a hub for R&B stars, with Chxrry being one of the latest additions. From a strategic perspective, it makes sense for her to work with Mariah for her new single, as they two of the most polarizing names in modern R&B. Side by side, this powerful duo is even stronger together and will lead to more collabs in the near future.

Jon Keith – “NEW ME” ft DaniLeigh

Finally, our last spot of New Music Friday goes to singer/songwriter, Jon Keith. In essence, this is one of those songs that immediately catches your ear due to the infectious instrumental. At a deeper level, you get a random feature from DaniLeigh who surprisingly help leave the listening session with lasting impression.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday.
