Street-rapper Numbas is back with another sonorous anthem featuring Baton Rouge vet, Kevin Gates.
The two ‘gangster rappers’ combine effortlessly on the street and club-ready cut, “Gator”. Complementary and synergetic with their hard-shelled rhymes riddled in street lingo and kinetic energy, Numbas and Gates is the collaboration we never thought we needed.
Numbas recites witty lyrics such as “MJ with the 45, ‘Bron James coming chopper style, break dance make a n***a scram, Benjie Frank I rob the bank”. Gates then takes the track from Numbas mid-track in a rapid manner and elevates the street talk in an indignant manner sounding off on having to prove himself, and he is “Luca Brasi”, a reference to his project series and fictional Italian consigliere in the cult-classic film, The Godfather.
“The song is inspired by life on the Gulf Coast as a young hustler coming up thru the ranks dodging all the traps and pot holes set by mentally ill folks, all the while developing the clairvoyant ability to be able to read and determine the real folks from fraud” Numbas told Remixd Mag exclusively.
Produced by frequent collaborator and beat technician BBPTB, the beat has a snarling bass and triumphant horns that allow the two rappers to stamp their authority.
“Me and Gates being from similar backgrounds on the Gulf Coast made it a no brainier for him to feature on Gator” Numbas reveals.
